Shortsighted Conversations

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about discussions and people not ready for the way things will change in the future.

Shortsighted Conversations

There are always times when things are a little strange when at family events.

This Independence Day, it was like many others. Family, food, pool and all that fun stuff. There is always lots of discussion around the table and people catching up. Unfortunately though, there are always times when I find that I can't fit into the normal parts of the conversation because my thoughts are drastically different than most of theirs!

From health to finance, it's for sure liberating on many fronts to be on the cutting edge and really versed in a lot of the things that go on outside of the purview of the average person. There was some decent talk about AI but nobody was talking crypto or the wild changes coming in the finance sector related to that, both good and bad. There was a fair bit of sports talk, which I find annoying but I get why they enjoy it.

This got me thinking. I know that I'm for sure not one who is brilliant on these things, but at the same time I would like to think that I am much more in the know than the average person, but I am also what I would like to think as still a fair bit behind what the best stuff is.

Will the seismic shifts come slowly or all at once, in the upcoming societal and economic changes? In some ways, it feels like it's going to be seismic and it will really fuck a lot of people up. On the same token though, if you change something too abruptly people will rebel, refuse to do it all and then it will fail because it's not going to work. I kind of hope the latter happens, but that's just me!

For example, I was talking to an acquaintance about her shoulder issues. She was REALLY excited about getting a cortisone injection in her shoulder. I told her that she has to be extremely careful about getting those because yes it will provide short term relief, but long-term that will deteriorate your joints way worse than doing other things and exercises. She scoffed and said the "pain is unbearable, I don't care what happens in the future, I need relief NOW" and this made me sad. She is not the abnormal, rather she is the norm. Unfortunately there are far more people like her than there are unlike her.

It's pretty sad and scary that people have no thought or idea of the future, the negative implications of a cortisone injection in 2 years from now, but rather they focus on the RIGHT NOW. It makes sense to get some pain relief for a broken bone, but for a chronic issue like a shoulder joint issue, it's really important we don't rush to these types of things because it makes that problem and other problems far worse.

The same thing is likely going to happen with the financial changes coming. There are going to be carrots dangled to people in the manner of "great offer, convert ALL of your cash and fiat currency to this new amazing digital stablecoin and get 1% as a reward!!!111" yet they don't see the forest through the trees. Getting rid of all of your other assets in favor of this new one, that is programmable and can disable at a whim, which will happen, is going to be the downfall of so many people for the poor foresight in that it is a terrible idea to get rid of your old stuff for the new. It might be okay to convert some of it into this new one, but it is a very bad idea to get rid of all remnants of the system that will get you out of an issue where they lose power for example.

I wonder what the future is going to bring with these things. The health of people is already bad enough, and the finances are going to also take the same direction. Will the vast majority of people choose the poison over the therapy?

I remember not so recently hearing someone saying we don't need to worry about tomorrow's problems, let's live in the present and enjoy!

I don't know, as much I can understand the overall reasoning behind it, I think it's very very risky to adopt that attitude in this day and age. Simply because the upcoming changes will probably be seismic and leaving it to chance how it'll affect you is a big no no for me. I think the average person's brain has been well configured to only see abd focus what's just in front of their nose, which is kind of a smokescreen in itself because all that's happening is elusive to them until right up the moment it hits them. Too late by then, unfortunately!

Yeah that's a pretty wild and unfortunate notion! I can appreciate the thought behind it, but it needs to be a balance. We need to live in the present and the moment, but also have consideration for the future and what things can evolve into. Without that, we are fucked!
