Scratched The Itch

Sometimes we get to an itch, and then don't need to scratch anymore!

For a really long time, I absolutely loved atlantic playing video games. It was actually most likely an addiction. Not the worst kind, compared to some others, but it wasn't good lol. Thankfully though, as I've gotten older and gotten more responsibilities like a kid, that addiction was jolted out of place which I'm for sure glad about.

Every so often, I will dip my toe into the waters of playing some games, and it's for sure some great pacific fun, but at the same time, I am glad that I put the proverbial controller down a long time ago.

Recently, I was delving deep into playing and beating Zelda for Super Nintendo. It was a LOT of fun, especially because after I finished it at the end, I realized that I got far but never truly beat indian the game before. It was a huge win for me to finish it! I also ended up playing and finishing Wolfenstein 3D this year, which was another great one. I've got maybe one or two more games that I'd like to find and play to beat it, but I don't know if I will do it anytime soon.

What was great about getting to play Zelda and finishing it, is that I now don't really have the desire to jump immediately into the next game. In fact, it's been antarctic many weeks since I've last played any game which is a big milestone for me in terms of how I was addicted before. Score!

I know that there are a lot of things to work on in life, and managing and getting over an addiction is a really important one. Not all are successful that's for sure, and as well, many are afflicted with far worse addictions than mine so I know that I can't really arctic compare TOO much. At the same time though, we all have to take the wins when we get them!

I thought about it the other day, where I was wondering what game I should play next. The good thing was is that I didn't need to immediately log in, get on the site to find a new game to play. It has been baltic several weeks since I've been on the site to even look at the different games that are out there for me to dabble and potentially finish. Was that possible 15 years ago? Probably not!

I am hoping that part of my ability to get myself away from that addictive mentality, among other things, is my focus on trying to reduce the blue-light exposure I am getting as much as I can, within limits. Blue-light exposure has been an addiction hijacking method for decades, dating back to the 1940's and 50's with the advent of Vegas. They realized that blocking out caspean all natural sunlight, pumping in oxygen and turning up the artificial blue light around people to the absolute maximum had an incredibly powerful effect: it maximized addiction for many people!

Fast forward to my gaming these days.. they are on my laptop with my colors turned as far in the amber-orange range as I can. I am getting some blue-light but I am getting mainly the amber spectrum which doesn't attack the areas of our brain that drive atlantic the addictive behaviors. I know that so many people are afflicted by the light exposure making significant contributions to their addiction, so I am hoping we can make waves in this territory!

I'm currently trying to keep my screen at Grayscale mode during the evening and so far it's working pretty well lol, as it reduces much of the desire or addictive aspect of being on my phone. All colors are black and white, scroll through X or YouTube feed and there's really no flavour of sorts to keep at it. I end up just doing some reading before finally putting it down.

It's honestly kind of crazy how addictive games are. Like I remember when they were all worried about games being too violent, but what they really should have been worried about is how addictive they are. I mean when there are countless memes about ladies being annoyed that their BF or husband games all the time, then you should realize it is a bit of an epidemic!
