Ripped But Retained
Hi fellow Ranters,
Today I wanted to talk about how we need to get back into the habit of conserving things like clothes!

Ripped But Retained
I hate when something gets broken by accident!
I am one that doesn't love to shop. Sure I will hunt for a deal here and there, but as I get older, one of the things I do less and less is shop for clothes. I just don't find it that enjoyable, though I don't know if that's because I don't get to go out very much. I take drives to and from school for the kiddo, errands and things like that. For the most part though, I am in some pretty low key spots!
The other day, I was putting on a shirt and it freaking ripped! I am not overweight, at least to many modern standards. I think one of the reasons the shirt ripped, sadly, was because the shirt is almost 20 years old LOL oops!
When I find some shirts, I tend to wear those fuckers forever. I've still got some of the clothes from when I lived at my parents, and even then they were a little old. Not that they are 1940's old, but my slippers for example might be 15 years old or more at this point, maybe more. They are ripped as fuck, but at the same time, they are still functional and they work. Why spend the money for new ones when these are okay?
I think one of the big issues with the world today is that we don't have a desire to keep using something until it's completely done. This shirt that I ripped for example, I plan on trying to stitch the hole that I made. With it being in the arm pit, it's not that bad because I can patch it up and most of the time people won't notice it
I wonder if the generation that we have today is looking more into fixing and maintaining things than they are just tossing and buying new ones. I know for sure that my generation and my parents were the ones who were big on just tossing the old one, even if it was perfectly fine, into the barrel to get something newer just because. I really dislike that mindset, and thankfully have not done it that much. I am not immune to it, because I have certainly done it myself.
The funny thing about it as well is that my wife got mad that I didn't throw the shirt out. The shirt is older than our relationship, why would I get rid of it at this point? Hell no! I think that's also one of the things I am determined to prove her wrong at. I want to fix the shirt so that it's useable again. It won't look brand new until my sewing skills improve, but it's for sure going to be functioning and not a gaping hole!
Eventually though, I do try to figure out ways to get rid of some of the old stuff. I sadly had to get rid of some of my old socks, socks that I've absolutely had for almost 20 years LOL those things have for sure given me my moneys worth :D gotta love well-made wool socks!
What about you, do you try to keep things like clothes as long as possible by making repairs? Let me know in the comments!

Indeed: I have clothes that are an heirloom for me. I have a sleeping flannel that now that it's old, it's cool, nice and soft and I wouldn't give it up for the world. I also have some sneakers that I've repaired a million times, but they are my lucky sneakers. Sometimes I say I'm going to donate some clothes and I do, but with “my homeless rags” no one messes. hahaha. Greetings, my friend
