Pinched

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about a recent thing I noticed, and why it was my fault!

Pinched

I wanted to talk about getting older, and how it comes with some fun but not so fun situations alongside it! This one is one of those ones that's not as fun as it should be.. lol.

IMG_2928.jpg

We're all victim to it these days: laying in bed, on our phones for a little bit before we fall asleep. My wife and I both do it even though we really shouldn't but that's life with what we've got right now. I would like to eventually get away from that practice, and have been trying to make some steps towards doing that but that's besides the point here. While on my phone, I've realized that I'm regularly laying in an awkward position for extended periods of time. This has led me to experience some odd stuff!

I've experienced pinched nerves in the past, so I at least know what the situation is, though the previous episode was a lot scarier because it had far more noticeable negative effects on me. I would get muscle twitches pretty severely, so much that sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night with them. That was scary as fuck because that's often a sign of something that is guaranteed short-term death like ALS. Not the way I want to go out that's for fucking sure!

Thankfully I made intentional moves to correct the issues that caused that bout of odd behavior with my body and it did thankfully eventually go away. It was poor body position when laying in bed when my son was a lot smaller. I would lay in a way that allowed me to keep a closer eye on him but that did have negative consequences to it. Fuck that was one of the scariest things in my life! I'm not necessarily scared of death, but I am more scared of abandoning my wife and son at the most important time and formative time in his life, and that's a thought that does indeed scare the hell out of me!

IMG_2913.jpg

With this most recent issue though, it's much smaller than that although it is likely around the same cause. I get this very noticeable and odd fuzzy feeling on my ear. Fuzzy is the easiest way to describe it, but it's a little bit like a tingling of someone flicking you with a feather, though far less sexy and fun, thinking of things that partners would do to each other.

The interesting part about it is that I've analyzed it quite a bit, as it's been happening for a few weeks now at this point, and I can't identify the exact behavior that causes it to occur at the time. I have noticed that when I hold my head at a certain angle and even when I move my arm in a specific spot like when I'm driving and holding the steering wheel for a while, that is when it tends to occur. This absolutely leads me to believe that it is positional and a behavioral issue with what I am doing.

I've also noticed that since I have been making a conscious effort not to lay down in the awkward position that I know was causing it, the frequency of this occurring is reduced quite a bit. Granted, the weird position I was laying in was more comfortable for me when doing it, long-term it's obviously not something that I should be doing so I've been suffering of sorts on my phone while laying in bed. That's not ideal but we do what we have to do sometimes, you know?

I think at the end of the day, with as absolutely terrifying as it was to have experienced the abnormal behavior of my body that was due to my poor choices of body mechanics, I am grateful for the experience that it gave me. It helped me realize that consistent abnormal behaviors over time add up to abnormal behaviors of our bodies. If we do something that isn't what we should be doing (as I've been drinking beer a little too frequently these days.. lol), our bodies eventually say something to us and we have to listen. Since I've listened, the strange feeling in my ear has subsided quite a bit!

What about you, have you had weird experiences with your body that you tried to figure out on your own? What was the outcome? Let me know in the comments!

Most times I get those pinched nerves and some muscle tightness in my hands.
The nerves hasn't come in quite a long time but the hands (fingers actually) tightening are irregularly occasional visits.

I really don't know what costs em and I tend to ignore em when they come.

Yeah the ones on the hands can be tough! Is it carpal tunnelV? That's very common with people these days as much as we are on the keyboards. Hopefully you can get it managed well!

Still do. Even though I know what is wrong with me based on diagnosis, I try to understand the things happening to me better. My oldest son says to stay off Google.

Yeah for sure it's tough to be online but it's good to be informed.

There's a lot of methods that are old technology to help heal and alleviate issues in our bodies. Red light therapy is amazing and has been around since the 1910's. We use that weekly for various things! I just learned of the whole science of grounding our body which is fascinating. We ground houses, cars, anything electrical yet we don't ground our bodies? I ordered a grounding kit that has excellent reviews and even from two people I talked to that I know who have had great success with it. I'll let you know how it goes!

Yeah, its not that he doesn't want me to be informed. Its just a matter that a lot of stuff is BS online too when it comes to medical stuff. I haven't heard of the Red Light therapy, I'll ask him about it and check it out.

I think one thing everyone is used to now is staying glued to our phones before we get to sleep😅😅
There are so many times my body feels weird but bothers me a lot because I’m still young and I feel I shouldn’t be going through such now

Hope you are okay! I have had a few incidents but thankfully there was nothing major. I used to experience knee ache after prolonged walking, and I was hoping it would go away on its own thinking it was just my muscles feeling sore after a workout, but it got worse and went on for almost one year... Until I decided to see a doctor, and after a few sessions of physiotherapy, I was almost back to normal. Really a surprise, these physiotherapists are wizards!

Yeah I've got plenty of aches and pains, abusing the body when we were younger lol but that's ok, it wasn't too crazy and it was a lot of fun.

This is just something I have to adjust my habits to get rid of, thankfully it's just that and not something worse!

I also experienced back pain and it feels like the pain run going to my left leg Sur @cmplxty .When I went to the doctor, the doctor found out that it's a nerve problem because I keep sitting down. She prescribed me medicine for that and I drink it everytime I am in pain. The doctor also advised me to have a 30 minutes exercise everyday

Ah that's sciatica, that's not fun! You should look up stretches and stuff online to relieve that, it will really help and exercises! I would stay away from the medication if you can.

Hope you're feeling better now. I think you need to exercise your body.

Neck issues here. Also lower back from poor lumbar support (slouching) while driving and bouncing on a trampoline like air ride seat for 3 million plus miles.

I really suffer when I do what you posted about. Having my head in an awkward position while (cell phoning)

Dear beloved Hive creator,

Coding poet Gudasol here to support you sharing your art + life on Hive.

As a fellow creator, I know how hard it is to get the word out there.

I built cXc.world to help creators like us get more support from the blockchain community + beyond.

Share your music on cXc.world, and copy the Markdown for a easy post includes embedded players for Spotify, Youtube, Soundcloud.

That way, you can earn HIVE + stack streams on centralized platforms, as they do still matter.

Not a music creator? No problem. You can still use cXc.world to find + share music you love.

What's next?

Preview the next evolution of cXc, Tetra.earth.

Bad news: Saying see you later to Hive! 👋

We didn't get the needed support to continue cXc.world on Hive, as our DHF proposal lacked votes, but [Good News Everyone] cXc.world will add a Markdown copy button, allowing you to easily share your music + music you find on Hive.

For now, we're on WAX, with tools you can use to mint your own Music/Media NFT collection.
