No Drying or Baking

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to lament about a few things that are now broken.

No Drying or Baking

When it rains, it pours sometimes.

There are certainly a few things about being a homeowner that are really challenging and annoying. One of the biggest ones is when things start to break...

We've been fortunate in that the appliances we've bought over the years have really done a good job at lasting. They are a bunch of well-built ones, and the things that have needed repairing on them are things that I can do my own, for the most part. Sadly though, they don't make them like they did in the 1950's that's for sure...

A few weeks back, the oven stopped working, really. It had given us issues in the past but we were able to get past it by replacing the heating element on the bottom. Unfortunately these days though, the heating element fix didn't last long enough and the thing is broken again. I think at this point we are going to have to replace the thing, as difficult as it is for me to admit that.

Then the most recent snafu was the dang clothes dryer. For those that have them.. they are a really crucial element to the home laundry kit! I know we can certainly set up some drying racks and accomplish what we need through that, which we are doing as an interim solution until we get a new dryer. The dryer kills me because that thing has been SOLID. It hasn't had any issues in the 6 or so years that we've had the thing, and I'm certainly going to get the brand again.

Sadly the dryer as well, it was a belt of some sort that broke and when I tried to repair the thing, it broke even more lol so now I have no idea what to do to fix it. I'm going to look up a video on it just for my own educational purposes in case this happens again in my future. I didn't realize that the thing had a belt on the drum itself, I thought that the belt was underneath but it for sure makes sense that it would. If it was just the belt that needed replacing, I think I could swing it but this other piece flew off and broke as well, and I don't have the time to fix them at the moment which sucks.

These things happen though, and I think the important thing is to do what we can to get a new set of these appliances, and keep them in good condition as long as we can by doing small repairs and maintenance of the things. The more we can stretch the money that we have and use, the better off we are. It certainly sucks having those expenses pop-up but I think the reality of it is that we're also lucky that I can largely maintain most of it without needing any extra help or spend a bunch of money. There does come a time though when you have to admit defeat and swap things out for new ones.

When we make a mistake in life, after learning from it, we remember a lot and we don't make that mistake again in the future.

We have a washer, dryer, and a dishwasher that are all kind of just staggering along on their last leg. I have a feeling they are probably all going to die at the same time!

The dryer is thankfully the easiest one fix, honestly. All it needs is either a new belt or a new heating element. Those things are tanks!

It sucks when they all feel like they're going to go at once though lol it's the evening usually when I run the dishwasher and I've always got it in the back of my mind.. that pump better not fucking fail because I'm upstairs just about in bed.

Might want to replace the drum slides while you are at it if your particular model has those on the dryer.

Hmmm.. I remember my fridge died on me barely two weeks moving into a new place. The technician had to come down and fortunately (and obviously) it was under warranty, I was able to get a new one.
