Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to appreciate getting to spend some time as a bunch of dudes!

Every so often, we get to take a step back into how we should be!
As adults, we all remember the days where we were younger, with less responsibilities, less things to do. It's not that we long for them, but we did enjoy them, and would sometimes like to have a day or two like that here and there. I got to kind-of take a step back into that the other day!
I went to a birthday party several months ago for one of my kids classmates. It was the normal stuff, but I wanted to go because I needed to figure out where to make some parent friends in my kids area. Thankfully I met some pretty cool people and ended up making friends with one dad, the host of the party nonetheless. It was cool, because we ended up linking up over fishing!
Fast forward several months, fishing season opened and I texted him to see if he wanted to come fishing, to one of the derby's if they could make it. Things didn't work out, and I figured maybe it just wasn't meant to be, and I wasn't really going to get to hang out with him and make a new friend. A few months went by when I randomly got a text one evening that he wanted to go fishing! Needless to say.. I was pretty excited myself LOL
We figured out the coordination and thankfully, the weather was great and we got to hang out with the kiddos and have a great time. It was really fun, to be quite honest. Just two dads, hanging out with their sons, catching some fish and just having a great time! It was certainly a very refreshing thing to have experienced.. the world today is NOT as social as it used to be, and it's a load of horse shit!
We had lots of laughs, talked a little bit about some random stuff but most importantly we actually caught some fish. The kids were slamming the fish left and right, and we ended up catching about 40 or 50 fish altogether. A lot of them were sunfish, so it wasn't a really impressive number because sunfish are like ants almost, they are everywhere in these bodies of water. It's still a lot of fun though, because the sunfish are of varying sizes from really small to fucking giant ones you could eat for dinner!
It was also cool because we caught a bunch of different species like Crappie, large mouth bass and even a catfish! There were some photos of course, but they have the kiddos in them and I'm not going to be posting those but I for sure needed the time. In the hustle and bustle of life, it's important that we be able to figure out how to take a step back and get back to what we used to be good at: making friends and hanging out!
One of the things that I also enjoyed about it is that we were able to show the little dudes how to be nice and friendly. I think the both of us seem to be decent at that, based on the few interactions I've had with him, and we are a lot alike in that regard. We both had some decent banter and things we said to each others kids, telling them how to do things a little better and differently and it was a good experience. It felt like there was some decent role modeling going on which was cool.
I think we are far too focused on our technology and the rapid pace of the world these days. We miss the small things, the important things and I know I've been trying to get back away from that habit into something more meaningful like this. The important part is finding like minded people in that space. It's really important to be able to relax with the kiddos and have fun!
What about you, have you had a chance to just sit around with some dudes and shoot the shit lately? Let me know in the comments!

40 or 50 fish? That's quite a lot! What a coincidence that this Sunday is Children's Day in Venezuela and that is exactly what I was talking about today: it is necessary to give quality time to children so that they can be useful adults. It is necessary for parents and children to spend time together, to interact, to communicate, to play. And of course, it is also necessary for adults to have some fun in order to nurture the child in us. You brought a smile to my face while reading your text. Regards
Haha yeah, there are a lot of fish in the place we go mainly because people don't eat them. The water isn't very clean, though this year it is a lot better than previous years, so there are plenty of fish to go around!
Completely agree with you there! It's so important that we nourish and spend time with the kids instead of have them and make them spend time on their own all the time. We need to teach them the ways of life, both good and bad, so that they will grow up to be a good adult!

I was at the beach the other day and somehow ended up chatting with a woman in her 60s! She told me:
Sometimes the simple things are the best! Like going fishing with a friend and your kiddo!
Stoked you had such a great time bro!
Oh for sure, I love getting some wisdom imparted on me by an elder! That's some damn good wisdom man, props to that lady!
Gotta love taking the relaxing, slow times and having fun with it. There are lots of "big" things to plan and look forward to, but it's the everyday and mundane stuff that's really nice to just hang out and shoot the shit with.
I'm hoping to get some fishing in next month. I haven't been since last year and it will be nice to throw a line in the water. Sounds like it was an amazing day for you!
Ah that's awesome, glad you're getting to experience it man. Are you fishing for some of the deep cold water fish of the Great Lakes or are you going for the smaller, more common things?
No, I am more of an inland lake panfish kind of guy. I'll be lucky if I end up catching anything a this dock, it's likely going to be quite crowded.
Ah, still a lot of fun. The good part about the panfish is they bite at almost anything you toss at them, at least to see if it's edible lol
Yeah, they do. I was fishing down in a quarry in Oklahoma one time when I was a kid and we were using cooked corn kernels as bait. They were snatching it before we could even get the line in the water.
Haha this is so true! Am so guilty of this! Always good to have some fun outdoors!
Yeah dude for sure! I'm glad that lots of us recognize it. The first step to changing an addiction is to recognize it, then make steps to correct it! Outdoor exposure helps with that considerably, I think!
