Internet of Timeouts
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about how necessities in the technology side keep getting more expensive, but not better!

Internet of Timeouts
Am I getting to the shrinkflation part of the internet connection?
One of the very frustrating things going on in the world today is that prices of everything keep going up. This is intentional because of inflating the money supply to try and tame the demand or some shit. It could also just be to intentionally make people suffer, which I am a little more keen to believe.
The price of internet connections in my area is obscene. I talked to some coworkers years ago about it because our company used to reimburse for the cost of internet and they almost had a stroke at the price I pay for internet. The insane thing about it too.. is that the quality of it keeps going down and down. This has been incredibly frustrating!
I've gotten a considerable amount of internet disconnects while trying to work, and when you're working from home that's super frustrating as it just hits into your productivity. One time I lost internet for 3 hours! It was nuts. I know that this is for sure a "first world" problem, because there are people who lose electricity for days on end, so I am trying to be sensitive to that fact, while also being pissed off at the shit I deal with lol.
The past 2 or 3 days has been really difficult. The internet connection has been super slow all day, to the point where I am getting frequent notifications of "poor network quality" from my meetings when I am trying to talk. Talking on the meetings is the primary thing I have to do.. so that is for sure a challenge when those things happen.
Today was rough because I was also having issues just listening to podcasts, so that was annoying. It would load a few seconds and then pause to buffer and then load more. I am wondering what the hell is going on with the connection because this is brutal.
One of the other frustrating things that I have experienced over the years is that the internet company I use REFUSES to let me update the firmware on my router to the newest version. Apparently this is only something that the ISP can do, where they push it out to your device. You can fight with them all you want but if it's your hardware not theirs, they will "do" it but on their schedule. This means it never gets done and you wait months or years before they get to you. It's the insidious way to convince you to use their product for a monthly fee, which I flat out refuse to do based on principle of those pricks not getting any additional money from me.
My challenge with it as well is that I also refuse to use a service like StarLink for various principle reasons, and I know some of them are silly but we gotta have some type of ground we stand on, right?
The only recourse I seem to have right now is just complaining, so complain I will do! :D
What about you, have you paid for something as a service and it's only gotten worse over time? What have you done about it? Let me know in the comments!

It's a frequent problem over here too. Rumours has it that these ISPs do it intentionally, they restrict the bandwidth and at the same time charge high subscription costs for a subpar network connection. During the night, say between 9pm to 11pm, the network is at its poorest and any form of Zoom meetings wouldn't just work, the same is the case also with trying to watch a stream. Like we're back to pre 2000s era :)
Oh for sure the ISP's do it all the time on purpose! They are criminal organizations at the end of the day. Take more and more money for less and less service. What a load of shit!
It's just like that, for people who work from home, the internet is very important, and when the internet is not working, all the work is disrupted, so they are very disturbed.
Yeah it's disruptive for sure when the darn internet cuts out!
Yeah.
Wow, I thought that this usual problem was only happening at home, because of the pc that is not the latest generation.
It seems that in all spheres there are hidden enemies to annoy us.
Yeah it's very frustrating! They have these issues in America and although we aren't perfect, I thought we had better standards than this crap!
