Hidden or Lost?
Hi fellow Ranters,
Today I wanted to talk about putting something somewhere.. and losing it LOL

Hidden or Lost?
As a parent, we all know that we have to do things to be the adult in the situation. One of those things is needing to take things away from the kids as punishment. We don't love doing that, but at the same time we have to do that.
I am not fond of having to do those things, but at the same time the little man is learning all about life, especially with some of the things that we've got going on in our lives right now. This means that when he misbehaves, there are consequences. The issue for me is with the consequences, sometimes I forget where those things end up going... hahaha.
One of the things that we do for the little man so that he spends time in the bath instead of sitting down, then immediately getting out. We give him the iPad so that he can watch a show. A lot of times it's something like Bluey or something of that nature, not garbage stuff that will rot his brain. This is a decent compromise because for me, I am always doing something at that time of night. I am never one to sit on my ass and watch TV or something. There are too many things in the house to do, so the bath time is a great opportunity for me to wrap up a few things before we all hit the hay.
He acted out recently, and I was tired of it so I took away the iPad which meant that bath time wasn't going to be as enjoyable as it would be for him otherwise. He needs to learn consequences of his actions, that's for sure.
What I wasn't intending though.. is that I in the process lost the iPad LOL OOPS. There are multiple spots where the iPad gets hidden in the house depending on when I hid it last. The little man is good about finding them which sucks in some ways, but it's good because it in a way shows me he has great analytical abilities. With this time though, we are out of luck hahaha. I've been looking for days, the little man has helped me look and we can't find the thing. We don't have a gigantic house, so the thing can only be in a certain few spaces when it comes down to it. The big issue is where.. that's what I don't know!
I guess I have to spend time tearing apart the areas that I think it might be in, one of them namely being the closet in his room. It's where we are storing all kinds of shit right now because we don't have a garage or lots of storage space otherwise. Stacked with boxes and totes and shit, it's a pretty good hiding spot. You just have to make sure you remember where you put the damn things :D.
I have to start writing down my spots where I hide the things, so that I can go retrieve it when needed. That will eventually backfire on me when my son has the combo to my phone to get in. Thankfully that won't be for a while longer, but eventually that's going to be a risk lol.
What about you, have you hidden something from your kids but ultimately forgot where you put it? Did you ever find it again? Let me know in the comments!

LOL!
…the cheap old taped up headphones in the picture? They were given to me by my old job, a few years back for remote work during the whole…whatever the hell you wanna call that business.
Anyway, I use them daily for my current job and at home. I use them to listen to music, but also to take calls without losing the use of my hands…they’re kind of a big deal.
Anyway, my 5 year old kept taking them from me and I was afraid she was going to break them, so I took them and put them “someplace safe”…
…after that, I didn’t see them again for a month! I even bought these red ones (also in the photo) on Amazon for $14 so I’d be able to attend my weekly engineering meetings. Turned out they were in the cabinet above the fridge…I don’t think I was smoking weed at the time, but I have no idea what else would make me think that was a good place for them 🤣
Sometimes, when I lose the kids’ things in the same way, I find them way after they’ve lost interest. In those cases, I may bring it back as a surprise, or I may donate it to Goodwill…I might just be a jerk 😬
Hahah nah I don't think you're a jerk for that, I've tossed or donated a bunch of things that were hidden and similar situation they forgot about it and then off it goes.
Of course you found the headphones after you got the new ones lol. I still haven’t found the iPad sadly. It’s in here somewhere we wouldn’t throw it away lol
Damn man, still! …you got some mad hidin’ skills bro!
Or some serious memory lapses! Lol
HAHAHA maybe a little A and a little B? I mean, forgotten or not, a shittily hidden tablet would no doubt reveal itself organically, and likely in short order 🤣
I got a nice chuckle reading this one. I misplace my company phone once every 3-4 months. It's like a third wheel when I travel for my side business, but want to keep connected to my main job.
I am trying to keep it in a dedicated spot in my backpack now.
Wish me luck!
:)
Good luck man, you got this!!! I’ll tag along for a while and hope to hear good news on your plan 😬
LOL
I will post updates :)
Hahaha hell yeah dude!
Yikes, I hope you find it. I usually only lose stuff when I put it somewhere and then my wife gets sick of looking at it so she moves it or throws it away.
Hahah ya that's happened too but not with this. This is old fashioned oops lol
Hehe
It can be very funny to start looking for something you hid but don’t you think you will get tired of hiding it and fully releasing it to the young man?
No because it's important that he knows there's consequences if he misbehaves.
Sometimes we need to instill some discipline in our children, not because of today but tomorrow, we are teaching them to be responsible and not harsh to them.
Completely agree with you there. We have a lot of issues as a society today because people are so focused on short term satisfaction over long term success and discipline. It’s really dangerous!
I sadly am still finding stuff I took from my kids!
Out of site, out of mind I guess.
They don't ask, and I don't retrieve it. So I end up finding the stuff when I move furniture or paint a wall.
I usually put stuff high and out of line of sight, which makes it disappear for my kids.
Perhaps you employed something similar?
Good Luck.
