Goal Post Moving

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to think about a goal I keep setting, but haven't accomplished yet!

Goal Post Moving

I've set a goal for myself the past 2 weeks.. and sadly haven't been able to hit it! Lol

I think goals are an important aspect of life, especially being an adult. It doesn't even have to be lofty goals, although those are helpful as a guiding principle but it's normal shit!

With my son being back in school, one of the things I wanted to do was set a goal of going for a walk in the mornings. I need to get more exercise on a daily and weekly basis, but I think sometimes the hardest part when we're in a tough spot is to just get up and do it. Commitment is hard!

This for sure gets me a little frustrated on some mornings, but I've got a lot of other things to do and sadly, that's the way things go as an adult a lot of times. The priorities change and we end up doing different things than what we would really like to do. Not that what I am able to get done is anything bad, but it's the balancing act. I would love to go for a nice walk, but I also have to fix this thing, organize that and so on. It becomes a battle a lot of times! Lol.

I know that now that we are in September, that I need to get my butt in gear and really do some exercising. Not that I dislike the cold weather, but it's incredibly refreshing to go for a nice walk in the brisk weather that is classic of where I live. A light sweater in the morning and by the afternoon you're in shorts. It's a wonderful change of pace!

The list of things that we have to do never shrinks, but I think that's largely perfectly fine in a lot of ways. It's good to have a lot of things going on than having absolutely nothing going on. Idle hands are not really a good thing, especially these days!

I'd love to sit down on my ass and play some video games or something stupid, but I think that I've grown out of that stage for the most part. I might occasionally, if the fancy hits me just right, do something like that but I also feel annoyed that I do that and would get upset if I wasted my time on my ass instead of accomplishing a task.

I know that we need downtime and mental relaxation and shit. That stuff is great indeed but I think one of the signs of getting older and maturing is being able to adapt our mindset and find the enjoyment in other things compared to what we used to. I haven't turned on my video game console in 10 years or more, which is wild to think about sometimes. I won't get rid of the thing.. but I also don't really plan on spending a whole lot of time on the damn thing. It's one of those things where you don't want to get rid of it, but you also don't want to use it.

I am thinking that I need to start with at least one day of going for a walk. I know that I will feel fantastic after doing it and make it a point to do it more, but very often the hardest part is just getting started!

I don't have a habit of setting periodic goals, they are mostly ad hoc and random ideas that came to my mind. My current one is to complete a new book that I just received as a gift, and also to reduce my screen time and use the time to exercise. All the best in your goals!
