Flexible Gets it Done
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to appreciate having flexibility in life!

Flexible Gets it Done
It's interesting, being able to be very flexible in the workplace.
I've been one that has really been lucky in that I've had some pretty awesome jobs in my career so far. I hope I can keep the streak up, but who knows what will happen in the future. In the meantime though, I've certainly made sure to enjoy what I do and having great flexibility has really helped!
I've been trying to get a specific task done for about a week now, but every time we got to the next step we got stymied by some other thing. First there was a versioning issue.. then there was a space issue and now we've finally got those behind us, I attempted to get my needed task done. The challenge was is that I had to do it late in the evening!
I think having the flexibility to do work, even if it's above and beyond what I need to be doing, whenever it is convenient for me is a really important and cool thing to be able to have! Of course there are plenty of work-life balance concerns there which are entirely valid. An important part of it though, is that sometimes you just have to get something done and it is convenient to be able to do it after hours when there really isn't anyone around or a lot going on.
I did run into a little bit of a hiccup when I was giving it a go, but thankfully after some searching the web.. I ended up realizing that it never hurts to just try again LOL it's kind of like the IT mantra... did you try rebooting? Well, damn it, if just trying to kick it off a second time didn't solve my issue.. then I'd be damned! I got rolling and was able to get things completed.
I really try to limit my after-hours work these days, especially because my son is at a really good age where we can do a lot of fun things and family time is incredibly important to me. If I do HAVE to do some after hours stuff, I make sure it is at an hour when he is sleeping so that I don't waste any of my time that I spend with him.
I know that I won't always have this type of flexibility in my work schedule, but I think it was such a key and pivotal time in his life and development to be able to spend far more time with him than the average father would with their kid. I am hopeful that we can improve the jobs in the future and be able to keep remote work alive and healthy for a lot of industries because when people are able to have their own schedules and work when it is convenient, then they are happier and willing to go a bit above and beyond when it is needed!
What about you, have you enjoyed flexibility in the workplace like this? Let me know in the comments!

I think with the way the world is progressing and becoming more digitally native, remote work is probably here to stay. I used to have this problem that when at home, I can't past a certain ceiling for productivity. The home space can sometimes make it hard to zero in on work. Remote work would also probably take the work-life balance dilemma to the next level, in terms of deciding when to work and when not to work with the flexible time one has.
Yeah I know, it is challenging to balance the work and life stuff. When my wife and son aren't home late into the afternoon or evening, I am usually sitting there catching up on some additional work lol.
I certainly hope remote work is here to stay! I do like an office, but in my company where we are dispersed all over the country, it doesn't make sense.
Right lol. Especially when the mind is calibrated for work, every free time is an opportunity to put in some effort towards moving the needle format.
Yes, I think the flexibility is a great in that sense too, pop into the office only when important or necessary.
