Decades Past Due

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to celebrate a small win for me, finally beating a game after decades!

Decades Past Due

Sometimes there are things that we do, that are years or even decades later!

I've talked a bit about my recent foray's into playing some of the oldschool games from my childhood. From Wolfenstein, to Doom, to Zelda now. They've all been a fuck-ton of fun! It's great being able to jump back into some core and important memories for me. One of the things I'm getting to enjoy is being able to beat the games either again, or for the first time!! Zelda is now ONE OF THEM! :D

Some people think it's cheating to use a Walkthrough guide to play a game.. in some ways maybe, but in other ways for me it's just efficient. I don't have all the time in the world like I used to to spend hours and hours figuring out an issue in a game. I need someone that has that time and somehow makes money off it, to help me out!

I used a walkthrough to complete the game and it was a lot of fun! I ended up getting pretty much every single thing in the game, even the ultra-rare things like the most powerful sword and the best armor. The game we played maaaaany years ago, we didn't have that shit. There were whole walkthrough magazines dedicated to this stuff that people had to buy. We purchased a few of them for different games, so there ain't no shame in that game that's for sure!

This one was a lot of fun, also because it was fucking hard as shit as well! There are some parts of the game that I was stuck on for days! One of the bosses was making me so mad that I couldn't beat it lol the fucker kept killing me or bouncing me off so that I would have to start over. It was incredibly frustrating hahaha.

I think that's what makes a game a TRUE classic. Decades later, the damn thing is still hard as shit and you have a lot of fun playing it!!

The final boss was for sure tricky. With all of the right gear and equipment though, it was way more manageable than it would have been if I had the basic stuff! @borderline.babe you should use the walkthrough!! this is the one I used to beat the game!

I vividly remember playing the game as a kid, and maybe I even saw the ending of it once but I for sure never beat it myself. I don't remember fighting the final boss, or even the second to last boss. I remember some of the later ones that's for sure, and maybe even getting to the last dungeon but I likely ended up watching a friend of mine beat it, or he had it paused right as he was beating it and showed me the ending. At any rate though, I was for sure challenged which was awesome!

The funny and completely silly thing now that I've beaten the game... I CAN RESTART MY COMPUTER NOW! :D I was having to constantly put the thing to sleep so I didn't lose my progress! The emulators are awesome, but the sad thing is you don't really have a way to save the game in many of them which kinda sucks. I want to play some Mario but at the same time I can't save it, so wtf bro?

What about you, have you played and beaten Zelda? Let me know in the comments!

Time is passing very fast and I remember my childhood. It is good that you have played a childhood game. It must have reminded me of all the time that has passed. We also used to play Taken 3 every day in our childhood.

Hey, this is awesome, I'm so happy you were finally able to finish it! 😃 (And that final boss room definitely looks familiar. Pretty sure that's where I made it before signing off 😩).

Honestly, some of these games almost REQUIRED walkthroughs 😅 Like yeah, you can put 2 and 2 together -- if there's a lamp nearby, you probably need to light it with fire -- but these retro games had to get so much information across in only 16-bits.

I remember having a lot of trouble with Death Mountain, the Moon Pearl and Magic Mirror. Especially as a child, it's super confusing 😵‍💫 But again, I'm really glad you finished! Thanks for sharing!

Those old games are still challenging and fun after all these years, which proves that they are classics. Thank you for your explanation and analysis on such an important topic.
