Damn Automaton
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about how I got really annoyed with the AI stuff a few weeks ago!

Damn Automaton
There are a vast number of benefits to the modern systems we have.. but there are also fucking pains in the ass!
A few weeks back, I was trying to order something online. These days when we order off the major sites that do e-commerce, especially ones that create things based on your order (you can probably figure out the name without me giving them any additional SEO traffic), one of the serious downfalls of those damn services is that they sell the fuck out of your data. No scruples, completely toss that shit up into the wind to make even more money off you after the purchase of your product.
That type of behavior really makes me mad, so one of the things that I try to do with them is give them mostly fake information. The shipping address will be real but the other information is going to be a load of shit. Well, because I didn't want to create an account and give them tons of additional information, they decided they would take my order but automatically cancel it!
I was fucking livid because I needed to order it and have it come in on time so that it wasn't late for the event. I ordered it a few weeks in advance because I was trying to be better prepared, but sadly I didn't look at my emails for a bit. The fuckers cancelled my damn order a few moments after I placed the damn thing!
I was so mad, but I figured maybe it was because of the fake information. So I swapped the information out with some more fake stuff, but this time I used a real email address. Sure enough, they auto cancelled the order. I was really mad at that point so I needed to give the support team some hell, and started up a ticket.
We went back and forth, and after calling out their data harvesting shenanigans, I mentioned that if I was trying to steal something with someones information why would the billing address and shipping address be the same bro? Thankfully they saw the flaw in their logic, or the dude didn't want to deal with me anymore and they acquiesced the order and I thankfully got it with 2 or 3 days to spare, which really was cutting it close.
I think this is one of the benefits as well as annoying things about the AI systems. For sure this was a transaction that was flagged by some AI algorithm. When these asshole companies get rid of the pesky humans, what the hell are we going to be able to do when we just argue with AI bots all the time? That is for sure one of the things I am not looking forward to.
I don't think that if I was arguing purely with an AI bot instead of getting triaged by a bot and reaching a real human, would I have gotten the thing that I ordered. The world we live in is changing at such a rapid pace, it's unreal! I feel like I am more aware and in-tune with things than the average person and it's almost too much and fast for me to handle which is a little scary.
Thankfully we have some time before that is going to happen.. so we shall see what type of shenanigans I can get into with the humans that help me with tickets like this :D
What about you, have you had some automation mess up your stuff recently? Let me know in the comments!

I haven't really had any issues like you had. However, I have sparred with the chat bots on many occassions. Like you, I feel I stay atuned to most modern tech, but feel I am falling behind more and more. Especially since I have retired and no longer in the workforce.
Yeah man the chat bot stuff is annoying as well because they are replacing people left and right with those damn things. I guess it's been that way for a while now, where it used to be the prompt phone system to triage where things should go instead of getting directly to a human.
It's not difficult to fall behind with this stuff that's for sure!
I think it's becoming more of the case that AI systems are the first point of entry with many of these support chat bots and the trick I sometimes use is ask a complicated question that will make it refer me to a human. I think the average person who's not versed well in tech wouldn't know they're chatting with an AI and this could just be wasted effort when it can't solve the problem.
Hahaha that's a great strategy to confuse it and then one of the buttons is to get to a person.
Yeah the average person doesn't know that these things are taking over lol
At least you were able to communicate with someone real at some point... now there are digital banks where it seems no human works there, you can only communicate through chatbots or voicemail. It's really annoying.
I'm also a little tired of AI, and it's just getting started. Yesterday I checked something on WhatsApp at the tourist office, and they forwarded me the messages Google generates with AI when you check something. Obviously, I've seen that before, but I was hoping for more accurate real-life information to plan my trip, and they couldn't tell me anything else.
Yeah I'm tired of the AI hype as well lol it is okay in some areas but to make it in everything is just flat out annoying.
Go*gle is one of the worst offenders!
I hate dealing with chat bots but that's the norm these days. I swear it's annoying esp with flights like that is probably horrible service. Sure automation is great in some areas but service that deals with other human shouldn't be dealt with AI or automated. Even 3 years ago, chat bot messed up my flights haha and that was definitely annoying.
Idk at this point I don't think we can ever escape from it. I even learned there's AI for trading too xD
Oh man yeah it's infecting everything like a virus. What happens if one of the chat algorithms itself gets a virus?! Didn't think about that until now lol. It would be interesting to see it implode.
It is pervasive for sure, and in situations where it's really important like a flight, it's best to do a triage with the bot but then get you to a human kind of early on I think.
