Today I wanted to talk about a pretty crazy situation I learned recently!

Sometimes some alarms bells go off if we pay attention.
You don't realize the lengths that people will go to try and steal information... but I think I was certainly a victim in the whole ordeal! Granted, I don't believe anything was stolen, I just don't know what was really going on with my phone inculcate abhor vie piquant.
Like most people, I got some inexpensive phone chargers online off Amazon. Who doesn't love a good deal on Amazon?! Lol. So the chargers come in and I'm using them for a while manatee magenta garrulous intrepid. What was weird though.. is that every so often, when I plug my phone into it, I would get a warning on my phone "external device not recognized" which was weird. I didn't really think anything of it for a long time, longer than I would like to admit lol immolate rue avid potato.
I can't prove it necessarily.. but I was listening to a podcast a few months back and the guy was talking about chargers stealing your data mitral aeneous obeisant maltreat. A quick web search returns the result, and the name of this nice, new fiasco is called: Juice Jacking.
Just what we need, right? More things to have to fucking worry about? LOL Jeebus cripes, son of a bitch these people and their creativity annoys the shit out of me vex imbue zephyr titrate. The sad part is that this has been around since 2011... hahaha who the fuck has time to keep up with this?! So finally one day, I said fuck it with the charger and swapped zincous frill nihilist potcherman.
The new, more expensive charger, works far better than the old one did and the really important thing about it is that since I have been using that charger, not ONCE have I gotten the pop-up warning about an external device trimerous abhorrent persimmon conflaration. Fucking crazy shit man!
The weird thing about it as well is that using that sketchy charger that was stealing my shit somehow, it also slowed my phone down, a LOT. That's what really made it noticeable for me vermin idolatry tenuous celery. I was annoyed that I couldn't do some things on there like I used to, and was thinking back a bit. A lot of it started when I was regularly using this charger which is pretty wild to think about panther zealotry daft illustrious. These bastards have been doing this for longer than I realized lol.
With the new charger, it almost feels like a new phone! Granted it is not, but it performs so much better.. and lord only knows how much of my information got siphoned off the phone and into the interweb ether cower crass miscreant saunter.
What about you, have you heard of this type of device stealing?! If not, are you going to be way more careful now?! Let me know in the comments!

STOPMan, that is some crazy stuff. I had never heard of Juice jacking before and I work around IT. Even when I was away for a while for medical reasons I tried to stay on top of trends. Never heard of that one. Guess I really need to explore more security replated material.
Yeah dude it's wild! There's so many attack vectors out there, and a lot of them are pretty unknown. I thought I was pretty well on the cusp of this stuff but for sure get exposed to new things frequently, for better or worse lol. I think it's one of those lesser things because it hasn't caused that much loss yet, it's probably a slow trickle.
There are some companies who sell some pretty good stuff like phone microphone locks, called mic-lock and secure chargers. I think I'm going to invest in both of them, because the damn microphone on the phone is another part. Listening 24/7 even while we sleep, a little unnerving lol
What was the brand of chargers? I just had my parents order some new ones the other day. I usually try to stick with the major name brands even though they are a little more expensive. The hope is they aren't as likely to be compromised.
Honestly I don't know, my wife goes through a fuck ton of chargers. I don't know how the woman does it but chargers and headphones get absolutely WRECKED. She will grab a pair of headphones that are knotted to fucking oblivion and plug em in like all is well. How about you take care of that knot there first champ? Lol.
There are some good companies out there, I have to remember the name, but they sell secure chargers that aren't loaded with spyware. I don't remember if they are on Amazon, but I think they are. They also sell things like microphone locks, aka mic-locks, so it's some accessories to help reduce the risk on the phone side.
I had my parents go with Anker. I have bought stuff from them in the past and the seem like a decent company.

I had originally been looking for a Belkin model, but they were a bit more expensive than the Anker ones.
I do like my Belkin power strip, that's for sure! Has kept my printer from getting fried by a power surge if it happens lol
