Today I wanted to talk about how I was reminded of my need to get into better shape!

A Little Extra

Sometimes life reminds us that we ain't no spring chicken..

The other day, I had to bring my car in for an appointment. It was in a decent area, as these days I don't bring it to sketchy places unless it's completely broken, and I decided that instead of sitting on my ass on my phone or something, I need to get a little exercise!

I ended up going for a really fantastic and long walk! It was incredibly refreshing and a wonderful experience but holy shit, I was reminded that I have NOT been as diligent with my exercise routine as I should be LOL I was lacking in the cardio department that's for sure!

While I am not overweight, I don't think, I do have a few extra pounds that I could lose to get into better shape. I am not overly concerned about it at the moment, but it was a frustrating and annoying fact that I couldn't go for my brisk walk in the beginning because my damn legs were burning.

I had that happen to me a few times over the years when I've gotten out of shape. If I recall correctly, my blood vessels in my legs are sized for my lack of physical exercise lifestyle so they will stay for the most part compressed. I do some home workouts here and there but that mainly ends up being squats, push ups and some light weights. Nothing really in the cardio department which is okay in some ways.

Getting going on the walk was a little embarrassing! I wasn't showing symptoms of my legs being fucked up but I could certainly feel it and I was having to push through it. Eventually it got to a healthy and dilated state in terms of the blood vessels but it for sure reminded me that I need to get my ass out there and exercise more.

The challenge I have, as all parents have, is that my son doesn't want to exercise necessarily. He wants to just fucking RUN the fuck around a field or something. I am not in the shape to start darting around a field so I can't really do that type of thing lol so yes I will for sure be out and about with him a lot but we don't go for walks, we do other things that lets him consume that energy but also not kill his old man.

I ended up doing about 16,000 steps which was phenomenal! I walked down to the little town center, walked about the area for a bit and turned around. I ended up getting there a bit early so I went back in the direction I came once more but cut the distance in a third and only did the close portion. It was great timing too because I was a few steps from the parking lot when I got the call that my car was done, so that was great! I timed it perfectly which is fun haha.

Since then, I've been pretty busy in terms of work and other things but I am for sure going to start walking in the morning now that my son is back in school. Gotta take advantage of the time without the kiddos that's for sure!

I've managed to be fairly consistent in going for walks but I'm not really sure how it contributes to the cardio department. I sometimes get tired easily when doing very active tasks, especially when I can't get to pace myself lol. Maybe need to start running to build cardio, maybe it's just needing to do more physical activities outside my comfort zone.

Yes one has to be picky where the bring thier car. Or to at least somewhere that you have trust with. Speaking of cars mines in the shop getting fixed cosmetically due to some weather damage.

I think I may have did just as much walking as you on Saturday. Surprisingly dont feel any soreness so thats good. Am I in shape? I know I'm not but could afford to lose a few pounds like you mentioned. I'm actually in your neck of the woods I walked all over Boston. Yesterday a day filled with hearty a breakfast, a family get together BBQ, games, camp fire and fireworks to end. Many relatives seen that I havent in awhile or even met for the first time. After yesterday I need some more physical activity, haha. Going to beach today not sure where at yet. Take care.

Health, weight, and fitness is always a work in progress for me. I am not overweight but my muscle mass is low so I do have a good amount of fat, which isn't good.

The past couple of years I have been actively putting effort in improving my fitness, starting from clocking more steps on average per day, to more frequent visits to gym and I recently signed up for personal training sessions to learn how to better use the weights and machines.
