Vocal ConPaz, the male role models 😎 (eng-esp).

Sometimes we prefer to look the other way when we have excellent proposals around us. But today, to participate in the initiative of the #ThreeTuneTuesday of @ablaze I can't help but look very close, towards a group that accompanies me in my day to day.

Vocal ConPaz is a male vocal group created 13 (almost 14) years ago in Santiago de Cuba. Its director, Robereydes Rosales Montero, is my co-worker at the Orfeón Santiago, and together with him we reached the consensus that I would be helping to create digital content for the group. Looking closely at his work, I inevitably fell in love with the grouping.

In Santiago de Cuba, since there is no vocal jazz culture, groups (mostly female) are terrified of these arrangements. But for Robereydes the difficult thing is just a challenge, so the first song of the day that I'm going to recommend is this arrangement by Misty. Rober told me that he found it on YouTube, but then he took it upon himself to adapt it for his group. If we excuse the pronunciation errors of the soloist (who unfortunately does not know English), we will be able to enjoy an excellent interpretation 😊.

On the other hand, going back a little further in history, the director of this group was inspired by the black spiritual chants to create his own arrangement of "Sometimes I Feel". For me, who was present on the night these videos were recorded, this was one of the most touching works that they sang.

Finally and to finish with the trilogy that requires the #ThreeTuneTuesday I bring you the Self-Portrait theme. This is an arrangement by Conrado Monier (who has arranged most of the songs for Vocal ConPaz). This song has as lyrics a poem by Regino Boti, and was originally set to music by a troubadour from the city of Guantanamo. Self Portrait has been the song I've had the most on repeat since then.

For me Vocal ConPaz is an example to follow. They have gone through many obstacles in their career, they still have many others to overcome, and yet they continue to strive to create good music. I hope that with this post more people will be encouraged to follow them or hire them, because it is really one of the musical proposals of the country that deserves greater visualization.

Vocal ConPaz es un grupo vocal masculino creado hace ya 13 (casi 14) años en Santiago de Cuba. Su director, Robereydes Rosales Montero, es mi compañero de trabajo en el Orfeón Santiago, y junto a él llegamos al consenso de que yo estaría ayudando a crear contenido digital para el grupo. Viendo de cerca su trabajo, me enamoré inevitablemente de la agrupación.

En Santiago de Cuba, al no existir una cultura del jazz vocal, los grupos (en su mayoría femeninos) le tienen terror a estos arreglos. Pero para Robereydes lo difícil es solo un reto, así que la primera canción del día que voy a recomendar es este arreglo de Misty. Rober me comentó que lo encontró en Youtube, pero luego él mismo se encargó de adaptarlo para su grupo. Por otro lado, remontándose un poco más en la historia, el director de este grupo se inspiró en los cantos espirituales negros para crear su propio arreglo de "Sometimes I Feel". Para mí, que estuve presente en la noche en que se grabaron estos videos, esta fue una de las obras más conmovedoras que ellos cantaron.

Por último y para terminar con la trilogía que requiere el #ThreeTuneTuesday les traigo el tema Autorretrato. Este es un arreglo de Conrado Monier (quien ha arreglado la mayor parte de las canciones para Vocal ConPaz). Esta canción tiene como letra un poema de Regino Boti, y fue musicalizada originalmente por un trovador de la ciudad de Guantánamo. Autorretrato ha sido la canción que más he tenido en repeat desde entonces.

Para mí Vocal ConPaz es un ejemplo a seguir. Han pasado por muchos obstáculos en su carrera, aún tienen muchos otros que adelantar, y aún así se siguen esforzando para crear buena música. Espero que con este post más personas se animen a seguirlos o a contratarlos, pues es realmente una de las propuestas musicales del país que merece mayor visualización.
