Mommy's Mental Health - Chapter 102 - Part One: We Won. Declaring a National Emergency Against GBV
An incredible NGO finally did. it. They procured over a million signatures and championed a massive national movement which saw South Africa come to a standstill on Friday. Even schools took an hour, wore black and paid respect to this terrible truth in South Africa. President Cyril Rhamaphosa, in solidarity with the scurge of gender based violence and sexual assult, declared a national emergency to help combat the situation in our country.
I felt incredibly moved by the stories my friends and so many other women had to share, that I made this video.
This is my story.
My God was this difficult to post...
Logistically, I videos myself telling my story about seven times until I ironically lost my voice.
This was yesterday. Obviously when I was in awe of how brave so many of you were. And I felt like maybe it was time to #speakmytruth, #breakthesilence and my experiences over the years to the millions of voices screaming out: " #metoo
My phone had trouble uploading the video, after all that, just went with the 1st one, and I kind of chickened out.
But I've had some time to think.
And I've been thinking... what I have to say is shameful to me and may cause hurtful revelations in some people close to me...
But fuck.
What about the generations we are leading? What are we leaving behind for them? And am I willing to follow in the footsteps of my elders, and take the easy route and just keep quiet? The answer is no. What if I could prevent something terrible from happening and I let my personal shame and fear get in the way of protecting another girl or woman?
This
Is my truth
#womenforchange #BreakTheCycle #nomeansno #consentmatters
I realised that no matter which video I picked I either left out bits of the story or hyperfixated on others, but through my music, my blogs and actual therapy I have created some self-authored content that I'd like to share with you in the comments.
