πŸ¦„πŸŒˆπŸ¦„πŸŒˆBadass Unicorn Bachelorette Bash!πŸ¦„πŸŒˆπŸ¦„πŸŒˆ

This is a gloriously happy story about friendship and the power of social media as a connective tool. Usually, I don't have much positive to say about Facebook, BUT this is a total exception.

So, My dear friend Jill Scott is getting married and I was absolutely honoured to be invited to her bachelorette party. We have known each other for around 10 years, but only met in person about a month ago when I went to go try on and then purchase a wedding dress! Crazy hey? No, @zakludick and I are not officially engaged yet, but we both know what we want and marriage is definitely on the cards when finances and life allow, but that's all for a separate post where I'll share photos of the dress :).

So Jill and I met on a platform called Sleekgeek SA, which is quite an enormous community on Facebook that promotes healthy eating and weight loss and what what. Jill kinda became an online phenomenon as a huge-hearted, no-bullshit face in the mud, keep getting back up, foul-mouthed, beautiful, lovable, and relatable human being. Watching her smash goals and then fall off the wagon and then get back up so many times has just been mind-blowingly inspirational. To know that life is not a destination, but a journey, and although sleekgeek got a bit finicky about her not being the absolute poster girl of perfect eating that they'd hoped for, Jill had unknowingly created a massive following of likeminded ladies who just wanted to be able to share their successes, failures and personal stories in a safe space, and so she created one for us.

The Unicorn group on Facebook has literally saved my sanity in so many ways in the 8 years I have been a member. In fact, some of the girls from the group are here on ecency, @marelizezeeman I'm, looking at you :p

It's a closed space, strictly monitored by Jill and one or two other ladies and it has been an incredible space for all of us to share our hopes, dreams, naughty stories, and failures, and sometimes when needed, it's been a great place to ask for wisdom and guidance from the girls especially when you feel alone and you're looking for people who've gone through similar life experiences.

I've made, besides Jill, some incredible friends, who I consider lifelong friends, whom I have also never met in person. I never thought that the internet could work this way and I've always snubbed online relationships, but this group, and obviously being here on ecency and sharing so much with the @ladiesofhive community has really shifted my perception of what connection really means and how it transcends distance or any other barrier that you may imagine to inhibit friendship.

These ladies have stood up for me, banded behind me when i was viciously abused online by a family member, they've celebrated with me, donated towards my father's memorial and they've given me the opportunity to love and share in return and it's just been the most phenomenal experience.

Jill and I got divorced around the same time in 2017 and have followed each other's ups and downs for years. It's been beautiful to watch her fall in love again and find her soulmate and believe me I am SO taking notes of all her wedding stuff and panning as I am being granted a second chance at this too as well as the opportunity to marry my own soulmate.

Here are some of the photos from the day. There was just so much love and smudged mascara in this room. What a special day.

We love you so much Jill AKA BadassUnicorn <3

I can never take my dog to the park because the ducks keep trying to bite him.
I guess that’s what I get for buying a pure bread dog.

Um... I'm glad I read this post so I knew you were even an item? Sorry, I miss sooo many things on HIVE, I think I'm in my own oblivious bubble.

Social media definitely can have an upside - looks like an absolutely fun day!
