I'm not usually a lover of video game adaptations to anime, because most of them are bad, and damage the original work, or usually deliver a different product to what one is used to play, however there are some that are the exception, Castlevania to give an example.

Several years ago, when they adapted the story based on Trevor Belmont I was very reluctant to see it, but in the end I was excited and thrilled because of the great job they did. So with that in mind I decided to watch the sequel called Castlevania: Nocturne, where the protagonist is Richter Belmont, a direct descendant of Trevor but generations later.

Inevitably a comparison is made, and clearly I must say that the second does not compare with the first, although it does have a good development as the story progresses, and there is a good chance that they will make a third adaptation based on future generations of the Belmont clan.

The story of Castlevania: Nocturne, occurs 300 years after the first installment, specifically in the region of France, where the aristocracy has formed an alliance with a “vampire messiah”, which would come to the world to rule. Just this beginning shows us how humanity betrays itself by choosing vampires instead of humans.

As a result of that and other factors that later become known, interesting characters appear, both on the “good” side, so to speak, and on the evil side. In the first season of Nocturno there is not much action, practically in the last two chapters is when the good stuff starts, but in the second season from the beginning to the end there are many battle scenes, as the series is reaching its climax.

As for the animation, pretty decent, Powerhouse Animation Studios which was one of the producers, kept the same essence of the previous installment, so if you saw it, you can get an idea of the type of animation, character designs, features, colors and special effects in battles.

A detail that I did not like was the relationship between Olrox and one of the priests, I think they have tried to give a lot of “normality” to this sexual perversion between two men, but understanding the current agenda, I am not very surprised to see it, however, I reiterate I did not find it appropriate, and more, when this series can be seen by children, although there enters our parental responsibility.

Finally and to conclude, it's a decent adaptation, it takes some elements from the video games in the story, but adds and changes many of them, even so, it's an adaptation worth watching, even if it's just for entertainment, so if you're a Castlevania lover or you ever played their fantastic games, you should give it a look.

De los videojuegos a la gran pantalla

No suelo ser amante de las adaptaciones de los videojuegos al anime, porque en su mayoría son malas, y dañan la obra original, o suelen entregar un producto distinto a lo que uno está acostumbrado a jugar, sin embargo hay algunas que son la excepción, Castlevania por dar un ejemplo.

Hace varios años, cuando adaptaron la historia basada en Trevor Belmont fui muy renuente a verla, pero al final quede excitado y emocionado debido al gran trabajo que hicieron. Así que tomando eso en cuenta decidí ver la secuela llamada Castlevania: Nocturno, donde el protagonista es Richter Belmont, un descendiente directo de Trevor pero generaciones más adelante.

Inevitablemente se hace una comparación, y de forma clara debo decir que la segunda no se compara con la primera, aunque si tiene un buen desarrollo a medida que avanza la historia, y existen muchas posibilidades que hagan una tercera adaptación basada en generaciones futuras del clan Belmont.

La historia de Castlevania: Nocturno, ocurre 300 años después de la primera entrega, específicamente en la región de Francia, donde la aristocracia ha formado una alianza con un “mesías vampiro”, el cual llegaría al mundo para gobernar. Nada más este inicio nos muestra como la humanidad se traiciona así misma eligiendo por los vampiros en vez de los propios humanos.

A raíz de eso y otros factores que luego se van conociendo, aparecen personajes interesantes, tanto del lado “bueno” por decirlo de una manera, como del lado maligno. En la primera temporada de Nocturno no hay mucha acción, prácticamente en los últimos dos capítulos es que comienza lo bueno, pero en la segunda temporada desde el inicio hasta el final hay muchas escenas de batalla, pues la serie va llegando a su clímax.

En cuanto a la animación, bastante decente, Powerhouse Animation Studios que fue una de las productoras, mantuvo la misma esencia de la anterior entrega, por lo que si la viste, te puedes hacer una idea del tipo de animación, los diseños de los personajes, los rasgos, los colores y los efectos especiales en las batallas.

Un detalle que no me gusto, fue la relación entre Olrox y uno de los sacerdotes, pienso que han tratado de darle mucha “normalidad” a esta perversión sexual entre dos hombres, pero entendiendo la agenda actual, no me extraña mucho verla, sin embargo, reitero no me pareció adecuado, y más, cuando esta serie puede ser vista por niños, aunque allí entra nuestra responsabilidad paternal.

Por último y para concluir, es una adaptación decente, toma algunos elementos de los videojuegos en la historia, pero añade y cambia muchos de ellos, aun así, es una adaptación que vale la pena ver, inclusive si es solo por entretenimiento, por lo que si eres amante de Castlevania o jugaste alguna vez sus fantásticos juegos, deberías darle un vistazo.
