Buddy Bear No#8 – PabloBear: A Berlin Tribute to Picasso

I’m excited to share the latest addition to my collection – Buddy Bear No. 8, the one and only PabloBear, created by Jürgen Wölke and located right in front of the Sixt building at the Europa-Center in Berlin.

At first glance, it’s unmistakable: This bear is a colorful tribute to Pablo Picasso. With its fragmented facial features, bold color palette, and shifting perspectives, the design draws clear inspiration from Picasso’s Cubist era, referencing works like Femme au béret or Weeping Woman. One brilliant twist: The bear is standing on its head – a playful nod to Picasso’s revolutionary impact on the art world.

As a long-time fan of Picasso, I was especially thrilled to find this bear. His emotional depth and bold artistic experimentation have always fascinated me. In Berlin, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing several exhibitions of his work – notably at the Neue Nationalgalerie and the Berggruen Museum, where an entire room is dedicated to him.

Artist Jürgen Wölke didn’t just imitate Picasso – he captured the spirit and reinterpreted it playfully. The bear features symbolic references throughout: stylized faces, abstracted forms, bold brush strokes, and vivid patterns. The result is both joyful and respectful – a true homage.

I’m happy to now include this unique bear in my Buddy Bear collection.

Buddy Bär No. 8 – PabloBär: Eine Hommage an Picasso in Berlin

Mit großer Freude präsentiere ich heute Buddy Bär Nr. 8 meiner Sammlung – den außergewöhnlichen PabloBär, gestaltet von Jürgen Wölke und gefunden vor dem Sixt-Gebäude am Europa-Center in Berlin.

Lasst uns gemeinsam die Welt der Buddy Bären kartieren!

Schon auf den ersten Blick erkennt man: Dieser Bär ist eine Hommage an den großen spanischen Künstler Pablo Picasso. In seiner farbenfrohen Gestaltung, dem Fragmentieren der Gesichtszüge, den perspektivischen Verschiebungen und den gewagten Farbkontrasten finden sich direkte Bezüge zur kubistischen Phase und zu Werken wie „Femme au béret“ oder „Weinende Frau“. Besonders bemerkenswert: Der Bär steht auf dem Kopf – eine augenzwinkernde Anspielung auf die Umstürze in der Kunstwelt, die Picasso selbst ausgelöst hat.

Ich bin selbst ein großer Fan von Picasso – seine Fähigkeit, emotionale Tiefe mit stilistischer Radikalität zu verbinden, begeistert mich seit Jahren. In Berlin hatte ich das Glück, seine Werke mehrfach in Ausstellungen zu sehen, unter anderem in der Neuen Nationalgalerie oder im Museum Berggruen, das einen ganzen Raum seinen Werken widmet.

Jürgen Wölke, der diesen Buddy Bären gestaltet hat, hat Picassos Bildsprache nicht einfach kopiert, sondern spielerisch übersetzt. Der gesamte Bär ist mit kleinen Zitaten und Motiven geschmückt, von den verzerrten Gesichtern über stilisierte Augen bis hin zur kräftigen Farbpalette. Die Gestaltung ist lebendig, mutig und voller Respekt – eine perfekte Umsetzung des Themas.

Ich freue mich sehr, diesen ganz besonderen Bären nun in meiner Sammlung dokumentieren zu können.
