Berlin’s Manhole Covers – Art Beneath Our Feet

Berlin is a city full of surprises – not just above ground but below as well. If you walk through the streets with open eyes, you’ll quickly notice that the manhole covers here are more than just functional metal plates. They are small pieces of art, each telling a story.

One of the most iconic designs is the one in this picture: a depiction of Berlin’s most famous landmarks – from the Brandenburg Gate to the TV Tower and the Reichstag. It’s almost like standing on a miniature map of the city. But this isn’t the only fascinating design. In different districts, you can find unique covers, often reflecting historical or cultural themes.

Every time I discover a new design, I feel like I’ve unlocked a hidden detail of the city. It’s these little things that make Berlin so special – even the manhole covers have stories to tell. So next time you’re out for a walk, don’t forget to look down!

Berliner Gullideckel – Kunst unter unseren Füßen

Berlin ist eine Stadt voller Überraschungen – nicht nur über der Erde, sondern auch darunter. Wer mit offenen Augen durch die Straßen geht, wird schnell feststellen, dass die Kanaldeckel hier mehr sind als nur funktionale Metallplatten. Sie sind kleine Kunstwerke, die Geschichten erzählen.

Ein besonders ikonisches Design ist das, das auf dem Bild zu sehen ist: Eine Darstellung der bekanntesten Wahrzeichen Berlins – vom Brandenburger Tor über den Fernsehturm bis zum Reichstag. Es ist fast, als würde man auf einem Miniaturstadtplan stehen. Doch das ist nicht das einzige interessante Design. In verschiedenen Stadtteilen findet man unterschiedliche Motive, die oft historische oder kulturelle Bezüge haben.

Jedes Mal, wenn ich ein neues Design entdecke, freue ich mich, als hätte ich ein geheimes Detail der Stadt entschlüsselt. Es sind diese kleinen Dinge, die Berlin so besonders machen – selbst die Gullideckel erzählen hier Geschichten. Also, beim nächsten Spaziergang: Augen nach unten!
