Oh, totally!

Hey, coffee friends! Hope you're having a nice Friday 😌

Poly-coated paper disposable cups are the worst I've tried so far--like the ones they use here in Venezuela to serve Nescafé at bakeries and coffee shops--. They make my coffee taste like plastic; I guess it's because of the smell be they produce when the hot coffee touches the poly coat. How healthy can that be, btw. I'll bet it gives you cancer.

Regular disposable plastic cups are not ideal either, but I tolerate them better. These are the ones I use to offer coffee to my students in my classes.

IMG_20240319_095955.jpg

My choice will always be ceramic if get to choose the cup for my coffee.

Below is the coffee I had today at work. It came with some biscotti. It was a nice touch ❤️

I have never taste different when the coffee on the paper glass, but on the plastic glass like your first photo, I prefer avoid because the plastic is so thin then added hot water, may be will make long term disease. Regular disposable plastic cups, I also prefer that. But the way out of our worries, maybe we need a tumblr that we can use always

For me, these plastic coats always change the taste of hot drinks, including the ones they use for sublimation cups. Polypropylene cups are, perhaps, worse. Glass, porcelain, stone, clay... Oh, much better materials for cups--and pottery--, healthier.

It is true that the taste of coffee changes drastically from one material to another. I also think that the taste of coffee is better enjoyed in porcelain cups than in plastic.

I leave you a cup of coffee for this day.☕untitled.gif

Sometimes, I disposable cups are just the easiest way to go, but I don't like them for many reasons: ecology, the taste of coffee, health...

I totally agree with you, the taste of coffee is better enjoyed in porcelain cups than in plastic ones. A good cup to enjoy a good coffee ☕.

Hi Hi! What a great sequence, I will always prefer a coffee in a good cup, especially to keep it warm.

Oh, you're right: temperature! A good cup must keep our coffee hot--or cold--as long as possible, and we don't want our steaming coffee to cook in plastic. Not healthy at all.

It's what we always wish for but wow, they don't always serve coffee in ceramic containers, I'm starting to worry. 🤔

Coffee just tastes like plastic when it's in a disposable cup to me. I agree... the cancer-causing element certainly has to be there 😵

Your work coffee looks amazing though! I'm 100% team ceramic as well, and if you add a biscotti, all the better hehe 💗

Biscotti, cheesecake, dark chocolate, buttered toast, hehe. Yes, please 😁🙈

We have a good collection of cups at the office, but that's my second job. I have my coffee in disposable plastic cups when I'm teaching my classes; I take it from home in a thermos.

Hey, believe me, I've also noticed that effect in the disposable cups they give out in cafes to serve Nescafé. I agree with you that plastic cups are more forgiving.
Ceramic or glass mugs are my favorites 🥰

I know, right? The taste is weird because of the smell that the poly coat produces when it touches the hot coffee.

I've been meaning to buy a couple of glass mugs because the material is so gentle that it changes nothing I'm the hot coffee.

The hotter the worse if coffee is served in plastic cups. And it releases more micro plastics. Terrible.

Yes it's terrible when it is serve in plastic cups. It would be best to serve it in ceremic or glass mugs not to alter the taste of the coffee.

The problem is that coffee to go could not be in glass or ceramic cups, at least not the ones we know so far.

A plastic flavored coffee is the worst, I have always heard that plastic containers when they reach high temperatures are harmful, but unfortunately they are commonly used for coffee.

That's a good point, I also have the feeling that the taste of plastic gets through so I don't like to drink coffee in disposables.

Obviously I prefer a ceramic mug. But when running from one place to another, you can opt for a disposable cup with a lid. Lately there have been innovations in design and additives that keep the heat in and preserve the flavor..... Something I recommend is to buy a ceramic cup to go and when you buy coffee you use your own cup 😊👍🏽

The main issue with plastic is when it becomes in contact with hot liquid. I think some of the coffee shops give paper cups for their hot drinks and plastic ones for the cold drinks. I’m not a fan of either of them. 😁
They both seem awful.

Hello hello my coffee people!
I confess that, as a coffee lover, I have noticed subtle differences in taste according to the cup or mug I have used. It is as if each material has a little story to tell, a whisper that blends with the aromas and flavor of our coffee.

For example, sometimes in plastic cups that can dull the intensity of the flavors and also in a plastic cup it cools very quickly, there is almost no time to enjoy it. While in cardboard glasses, although it is more natural, if you take a long time to drink it, the glass starts to become a little watery and it is really very unpleasant.

Definitely, the choice of the glass is a detail that is not insiginificant but a good choice can make a difference in our experience. In the end, enjoying a good cup of ceramic or glass coffee is a ritual that involves all our senses.

Great points! In addition to affecting the flavor, it really is a bummer to have a coffee that cools down before you even have the time to enjoy the aroma!

I also dislike how easily the cups fall apart; I like to fidget with my cup as I enjoy my coffee haha

I take looooong to finish my coffee, so a plastic cup is not for me. I remember when I was little, my family used to go to a country house by the river; they used plastic cups and "totumas" to serve the afternoon coffee. While totumas are just the nicest material for a coffee cup, the heat left super quickly...

I agree with you, the best option is a glass or ceramic cup, disposable cups change the flavor and are uncomfortable.

You made a beautiful, very poetic introduction. I really liked how you write about the aromas and the taste of the coffee. I think that without a doubt ceramic and glass win by far in this versus plastic and ceramic.

I leave you a cup of coffee for this day.☕

@daimar07 I dislike drinking coffee from a metal flask, and I am not keen on coffee from paper cups either, but somehow, I notice the taste is altered more in a metal cup than in paper.

Wouldn't it be nice if more people started taking their reusable cups or even their regular ceramic cups to coffee shops?

Most of the time when I go out I carry my coffee in my thermos and one of my cups, if I am going to travel by road in my car it is for sure that I do....🙌

I think taking a cup in addition to the thermos is super important, preferably if it's a non-metal cup. You just need to be careful not to break it:)))

Completely agree with you @daimar07, I drink it in plastic cup only if I order it to go, but if I want to taste it sitting in a nice place I order it in glass cup, I like it much more and I delight consuming it alone or with a sweet or salty snack. 😋☕️

I agree. The choice of glass makes the coffee enjoyable. It will make the conversation with your friends more enjoyable while enjoying to sip the moderate hot coffee's.

Hello coffee lovers and weekend conversations, I hope your day is going very well, thank God everything is fine here.

1000147544.jpg

According to this week's theme, I think that yes, hot coffee, did not come to be served in disposable cups, by natural law, it tends to change the flavor, it does not keep the heat and it is really uncomfortable to drink hot coffee in plastic and cardboard cups, many times I burn my hands🫣.

But no way, if there are no other options, well of course I accept to drink in them, but I do it very fast, so my coffee doesn't get cold so fast😁.

1000147553.jpg

Always my best choices, will be to drink coffee in ceramic or glass mugs, the flavor stays and the heat too. Although I have plastic cups I don't use them, I keep them for visiting.

I don’t have any photo of a disposable cup, because… they are not appealing at all! No photo of paper cup can be a good one 😁

Overall, the disposable cups always leave unpleasant aromas in your coffee. Paper cups usually make my coffee taste like cardboard and plastic cups, although not that bad for the aroma, leave microplastics in your drink for sure!

I always try to enjoy my coffee in ceramic or glass cups, because this is the only way to enjoy the clean taste of coffee. And the healthiest, of course!

I totally agree, ceramic or glass keep the flavor and aroma; besides, they're healthier than plastic. Micro plastics are everywhere nowadays; our sea water and sand, our food, everything has it.

The image of microplastics seems quite scary, especially if you watch videos and read a lot of eco activist articles…

I also believe that it is the healthiest, but not the most economical, it is urgent that they invent a disposable container for coffee that is healthier.

It may be available somewhere, but usually the most famous things are not the healthiest. Usually we will find paper cups, because they generate a lot of income…

You are absolutely right, the best thing we can do is not use disposable cups of any kind and learn to bring our best cups to the cafeteria. It's the only solution I see

If I can carry my porcelain mug everywhere with me I would use it every single time I order a takeaway coffee.

If I am honest I have always enjoyed my coffee without detailing the containers, unless the container has a foreign substance and alters the taste, but on second thought we should not drink coffee in plastic containers because they are not healthy. I once had a thermos whose lid could be used as a cup, but it was coated with a type of plastic that always altered the taste of the coffee, that's why I didn't use it to drink my coffee.

I think there should be a health law that promotes the search for healthier options to drink coffee, without putting people's health at risk and that does not alter its flavor because a good coffee is enjoyed in a good cup.

I really liked your point of view, what we should do is not consume coffee in disposable cups. I would like us to start this campaign, as great lovers of good coffee.

There may be some health laws, but I think the people who write them are the ones behind the biggest businesses. Seems like a conspiracy, but can be real! 😁

Excellent Sunday of conversation coffee lovers.

At home there are plastic cups and when the ceramic cups are occupied, I have to choose between drinking coffee in a plastic cup or not drinking at all. Many times I let the moment pass and drink coffee when there is an unoccupied ceramic cup, but there are times when the desire for coffee overcomes the will and I opt for the plastic, although I always end up wishing I had not done it.🤭

Coffee in a plastic cup has a different taste, the material influences and especially when the coffee is very hot. I always perceive a plastic smell and the aroma changes completely, the interaction between the hot liquid and the plastic is very perceptive.

This has been my answer to the question of the week, I hope to continue reading you in the comments.

I wish you a week full of success and lots of coffee ☕.

It happens to me too, but I have chosen to only drink from ceramic cups, when I am on the street or at a friend's house, I drink it out of courtesy and drink the liquid very quickly, almost not noticing the flavor😅

It is a delicacy to be able to taste your coffee in your favorite cup and I am one of those who think that the taste changes when drinking your coffee in a disposable cup. It will never compare. We only drink coffee in disposable cup when we are on the street and there is no other option and we must take our dose of caffeine because we need it urgently.
Greetings 🤗
And bon appetit ☕️

I understand you, I don't think a cup will change the taste. But if I find it uncomfortable to take the tiny cup and burn my fingers 😮‍💨... I prefer cups made of biodegradable material are more resistant and do not burn your hands.

I think everyone here thinks that this is an awful act, the only question is to what extent… 😁 Drinking from a disposable cup has to be declared a sin… in the Bible of coffee lovers!

In the bible of coffee lovers, that's very good 🤣.

It's amazing how plastic and or paper changes the taste of a coffee.

For me the enjoyment of coffee is very important. I don't really hurry to drink it and when I have to go somewhere else I ask for my coffee to take it to go and so I advance in my tasks but I have my coffee.

IMG_20240820_172704~2.jpg

I get a lot of pleasure when I am asked at the coffee shop if the coffee is to go so I pack my coffee in a disposable cup. I prefer biodegradable cups with lids that keep the heat and flavor for much longer than plastic cups that even burn your hands and lips if the coffee is too hot.

IMG_20240820_172751~2.jpg

Last week I visited a coffee shop in the mall. They offered me some biodegradable cups (which are environmentally friendly ♻️) and had a cardboard ear so I could hold the cup. I loved this 🥰.

InShot_20240826_135250679~2.jpg

It is important to use "to-go" cups that keep the heat, aroma and flavor of the coffee until the last drop.

The cardboard ear seems a bit funny, but very functional. This may be the cheapest and the most eco friendly design. The others incorporate a lot more paper, like additional thickened zone in the middle of the cup. It’s the first time I see something different than this and it is really clever.
