Many traditions have really been unfair to the woman most times. It got me emotional to see how the female gender is being treated in my locality. The men in my society don’t value the women, and it is really hurting me.

In my locality, the women are not regarded; they see the woman as a weaker vessel. Back in the years, the female child didn’t go to school; the parents saw it as a waste of money to travel a female child. Their belief was that the education of a female child ends in the kitchen. It pains me that some family members in my locality are neglecting the female child.

Last year when I was still teaching, one of my students walked up to me and said that her dad wanted to withdraw her from school and that I should please help her and talk to the dad. I accepted because the child is a bright child getting to her house. The girl was very happy to see me. I met with the dad to know why he wanted to withdraw her daughter from school. I was so shocked at the man's excuse that he couldn’t waste his money trying a female child that tomorrow one man would come and marry her. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I tried to let the father see reasons why that female child should go to school, but the father declined.

The female gender is really treated badly; most of the rights that a female child should have are also denied to them. Both the females should have the right to educate. There are a lot of doors that education opens. Education gives the woman a voice to talk in society so that she can’t be subjected as nobody. The male also believes that it is not right for a woman to pursue her career. I am so happy that the female gender is now standing their ground to make sure they went to school.

Another unfair tradition to the women sharing of property. This particular tradition is still in existence whenever they are sharing property in a family. The female doesn’t receive any share from the property. Infants can’t speak when they are sharing property. I have said to my mom this question so many times that I am still not satisfied with the answer my mom gave me. For crying out, a female child should have the right to property. I have experienced this particular tradition after my dad's burial. My dad’s brother shared my dad's property within my brother’s living, leaving the female with nothing when I try to ask why it is so the only thing told is their tradition, and it most stand.

The female child should be treated fairly by society; the female child also deserves the best.

This is my entry on the ongoing #inleomonthly #octoberinleo. Are there any traditions that are unfair to women in your locality?

We are all humans and should be treated equally, I don't know why some people treat women like subclass, it's not fair.

Honestly that mentality of not sharing property to females is something I still don't and will never understand. Just because she is a woman, she doesn't have right to inheritance. It's good that these days, inheritances are shared using the deceased's will. But if the deceased was a misogynistic person, I don't even know what to say to that
