the strike that really affect me

Good day, amazing people of the hive block chain. Welcome back to my blog.

Strike is no longer a new thing for me; I have been experiencing strikes since my secondary school and higher institutions. I gained admission to the university to study a course for 4 years, but I ended up spending 6 years there.

There is no Nigerian student who studied at the federal and state universities who didn’t experience a strike. For me, a strike has become a normal thing because, before you know it, we have gone on strike for a course that we should study for 4 years. We will end up studying it for 6 months. The ASUU academic staff union of the university will also go on strike if the federal government fails to meet its agreement.

This protest happened in the year 2020. And it really affected me there. We never knew that the peace protest would turn into something else. We don't have foodstuffs at home during that period, but by God's grace, we can't step outside because of the sound of a gun. This protest really affected me; it delayed my academics, and I was unable to move about freely. This protest was not funny at all; there were deaths.

The youth were no longer comfortable with the police checking their phones, especially when they see a youth with an iPhone or Samsung and you have dreadlocks. They will stop you and force you to unlock your phone for them to access it. Their mindset is that anyone with dreadlocks is into fraud. Most times, they end up killing the person if they refuse. One faithful day, my brother was taking me out. The policeman stopped him and ordered him to unlock his phone for them to access it. My elder brother declined, telling them that his phone was his privacy. My brother was blue and black, but there was nothing I could do.

The youth were fed up with the police brutality because these people have wasted a lot of lives, and the government was not really willing to do anything, so the youth decided to fight for themselves. I have not seen a bloody protest like this one in my area, where every market was shut down and schools were closed.

One thing about my country is that there is never a peaceful protest. At first, the youth were having a peaceful protest to stop police brutality, but before we knew it, our leaders ordered the military to kill the youth on the streets protesting peacefully. During the period of this protest, there was no business, and some of the states were on shutdown.

How did these two protests or strikes affect me?

I didn’t finish my education during the period I should have.
I lost someone very special to me during the protest against police brutality. A very close friend was killed during that protest.
Because I was unable to finish when I should have, I lost a job opportunity.

Even now that the academic staff union of the university is planning to go on another strike, the government should do something to stop this every-day strike. Someone who is supposed to spend 4 years ends up spending 6 years, and the most annoying one is that most companies don’t employ someone who is over 26 years old. Why has the country's school system already used strikes to delay someone's future?

This is my entry on #JulyInLeo Day 7.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I appreciate your comments, support, and upvotes. Have a lovely day.

Endsars period was a tragedy. Started peacefully and didn't stopped because more youths engaged daily. Government couldn't think of any better solution aside sending their thugs to disrupt the peace then send some military men to shoot down several youths.

Protest don't really work in our country.

Waiting for the present Government to do anything is a waste of time. So sorry for your loss. I hope the person is resting in peace
