The best decision of my life.

Life has a way of teaching us lessons; the most important thing is learning from the lessons that life has taught us. I am the kind of person that doesn’t joke with any decision I make, whatever the cause. I will try my best to make sure I stand by my decision. I have made a lot of decisions this year that have really ground me. For once, I never regret taking those decisions.

One big decision that I made this year that changed something in my life is counting some friends out of my life. There is this popular saying, 'Show me your friend, and I will tell you who you are.' I sat down one faithful day, reflecting on my life, and I got to find out that the majority of the friends I have are not really my friends; they are with me because of what they are benefiting from me. They are not really who I think they are.

I was telling my siblings that I don’t think that I have genuine friends, and of late I am so worried that these people I call my friends will betray me one day. I have to come up with a test just to find out who my friends are. To my greatest surprise, out of all the people I called my friends, it was only one person that understood what the word 'friendship' means. I was like, 'All this while I have been wasting my time with the wrong set of people because I always think of my friends before I think of myself.'

This is the best decision I have made in my life: cutting off unfriendly people from my life. It was not an easy decision to make, but I am glad I did it. Cutting them off made me realise that I value those fake friends more than I value myself. The moment I cut them off, I started practising self-care. I realised that I have not been fair to myself.

Most times it is always painfulwhen we want to make decisions, but at the end it will be the best decision ever.
