Literacy a powerful tool
Good day, amazing people of the Hive Blockchain. Welcome back to my blog. It is another edition in the #hivelearners community. I am so delighted to participate in this week's prompt literacy.
No doubt education helps to shape us to be better people. That doesn’t mean that people who are educated are more useful or important than those who are not. Before now I used to think that whoever can read and write is better off than those who can’t, but as I grow, I realise that education is not everything. Education is important, but it doesn’t guarantee success. There are those who didn’t pass the four walls of school, but they are successful and respectful.
It is important for everyone to be literate because the world keeps advancing day by day. It is advisable that everyone soon be able to read and write so that people will not play you smart. I can remember when I was in school my lecturer would always tell us, At least we should learn in order to help our kids in the future.
Whenever I meet people who can’t read and write, I feel for them because it is not easy; they are being humiliated by people around them. I have this friend of mine that can’t write or read. I am so happy that I was with her that day. Her brother walked in with a document for her to sign. Unluckily for him, I was there with her. As she was about to sign the document, I told her to wait, and I went through the document. I realised that the brother had sold her piece of land, and the only thing that was left was for her to sign the document. I was so shocked that the brother would take advantage of her state. The worst thing that can happen to anyone is being unable to read and write.
Despite the fact that my friend is not literate, she has the purest heart. Being literate is not a guarantee of being a better person. There are some who are literate, but they are evil and monsters. All they can boast of is that they can read and write; they are not helpful to the people around them or to the community. I believe it is not about writing and reading; learning other things about being a better human is what makes us outstanding.
I have had many encounters with people, and I got to realise that being educated doesn’t mean you are a better person. Education without value for people around you is rubbish.
It is very important for one to be literate because it will save you from disgrace and make life easy. There are many opportunities awaiting whoever is literate. You will be able to reason and see the world from a different angle. The real thing that makes someone who they are is how pure their heart is. For me, literacy is a tool; what really matters is how we use it.
I have come to realise that everything is not in a book; there are things that a book will not be able to teach you. Let us be more human with people around us.

This is so valid, most illiterate people are of good behaviour, they are humble, although not all literate person have bad characters
