Competition motivated me during my days in school. For me, there is nothing bad with competing; it only becomes bad when you start envying someone. I always see competition as a ladder that triggers me to do more. One thing I love about myself is I don’t compete for material things; I only compete to be successful.

Competition is one thing that triggers us to grow; it is always painful, which is why most people misinterpret the word competition. Currently people no longer compete to be better but compete to feel among and out of greed and jealousy. I can’t imagine a world without competition; it will be a stagnant world, with nobody to push or motivate you. When you are competing with someone, it will help guide you to work hard.

Whenever someone is competing with me, I am always happy because that person wants to be like me. At the same time, I will tell myself, You need to top up your game so that your competitor will not be ahead of you. At the same time, I realise that where I am at that point is not the end. One amazing thing about me is I don’t keep friends who are on the same level; I love making friends who are above me. People that will motivate and inspire me.

Competition brings out the best in us and helps us to be stronger. My mom always makes me see reasons why I must compete with my classmates. She realised that I was so relaxed when it came to my studies that she needed me to do more. One morning she called me and told me if I was able to come first in class, she would gift me a bicycle. I came so eager to do well in my studies.

I became so serious with my studies; my teacher and classmates were so surprised. During break time I will go to the school library to study and listen to my teacher when she is teaching, and I ask questions when necessary. In the middle of the night, my midnight candle was burning.

At the end of the term, I took the first position. My mom was so excited when she was gifting me the gift. She said to me, Do you see how competition brings out the best in you?. Always compete to be at the top, but don’t compete out of hate or jealousy.

Always have the mindset that you are competing to be better; it is not a do-or-die affair. Don’t bring in hate and jealousy when competing. If you find out that the competition is becoming toxic for you, quit. I will always tell myself I can’t envy someone; rather, I will compete to be at the top with the person. That does not mean I will hate the person or gossip about the person; I don’t involve myself in a bitter competition.

I just don’t go into competition whenever, but whenever I go into one, I am in competition because I mostly bring out the best in me. My top secret whenever I am competing is patience and hard work.

This is my entry on the weekly prompts #hivelearners community #hl-w171e1 topic competition.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I appreciate your comments, support and upvotes. Do have a lovely day.

Achieving something like this means you have an healthy mindset, this is the reason you were able to think positive about what a competition means. For some people, they see others doing better than them as a hindrance or might even feel the need to eliminate.
