Change in climate.

Climate change is one of the problems we face in our country today. We have two seasons, the dry and the rainy seasons. Currently where I am living now, the rainy season is around the corner. Everyone living in the area is scared because this is the worst season in my area; it disturbs our crops and renders many people homeless.

I live in a watery area; most of the houses in my area had to be sand-filled before a structure was erected there. If you are outside and it starts raining, just accept your fate and sleep outside because it is going to be terrible. My area is so wet, and it can’t absorb water anymore; we pass through frustration during the rainy season. Everywhere will be flooded; most times the flood enters people's houses and destroys properties.

Since this week it has been raining consecutively in my area; everywhere is flooded. Nobody in my neighbourhood has stepped outside. The majority of the people there are sleeping or standing because their properties are floating in the water. Because of floods during the rainy season, it is not always easy for us; means of survival are always hard for us. Many things are delayed from us, such as electricity and so on. I just do not like the rainy season because of the frustration it causes us.

Farming is the major source of income in my community, but the rain will always be washing away people's crops from their farms. We always experience scarcity of food during this period; you only rely on the government because the running always washes away our crops. Children stop going to school; we have been facing this year after year.

Change of climate also causes erosion; the roads become terrible, and people can hardly access them. I have been in a community that erosion divided their road into two; they can’t go to the other community to sell their goods, and people can’t enter their community to buy goods from them due to the bad road.

How I wish we would look into this climate change; it has been dealing with people, always rendering people homeless and causing loss of properties and life. During this period the kids stop going to school due to floods, and people starve due to scarcity of food. During the rainy season, we live in fear. It is high time we speak up and ask for help from the federal government because for years now we have been suffering from this climate change, and it is really affecting us.
