Viewpoint to Cap Formentor - Leuchtturm von Mallorca, Spain

I was on Mallorca at the time, and I got up at 3 in the morning just to catch this sunrise. I hoped it would be worth it, and honestly it turned out to be one of the most beautiful moments I have ever captured with the drone. The air was cool, the sea completely calm, and @annasdiary was there with me. That mix alone made the whole experience something special.

Image 1 shows the lighthouse of Mallorca. I paid extra attention to making sure the rocks in the background were visible and that the light from the tower hit the sensor just right. I should have stepped back a little more, but I still think it turned into a really strong shot. I edited it with a silver metallic touch on purpose because it brings out the structure and mood even more.

In Image 2 you can see the road you have to drive to reach the lighthouse. I love this scene because you can clearly see how misty and foggy the sunrise was. The clouds were insanely dense but later completely disappeared. The tower is positioned on the left side, and the road leads nicely towards it. The only downside is that the road became a bit more dominant in the foreground than I wanted. But with the small drone sensor, anything else would have looked strange.

Image 3 is similar to the first one but edited brighter. I wanted the entire coastline to be visible. Here it looks like the coast stretches on and on before curving away. In Image 1, on the other hand, you see more of those two distinct rocky edges. Same place, totally different impression.

I edited Image 4 deliberately melancholic with a mix of orange yellow tones combined with a silver touch. Here you can really see the sunrise and how calm the water was. This is one of my absolute favorites from the whole series.

Image 5 is similar to Image 4 but taken from a slightly different angle. The lighthouse itself doesn’t shine here, and that was intentional. The sun was behind the tower and I wanted to capture only the natural light. That’s why the editing is much darker. This one is all about the mood of the sunlight.

Image 6 is basically a variation of Image 1. Here I put the focus more on the lighthouse. The background is softer and less bright, giving the whole photo more depth. This brings out the lighthouse much more clearly.

Image 7 shows me. The foreground was way too dark originally, so I corrected it later. I mainly wanted to show what the coastline looked like. I had climbed up that rock just to get this perspective. A bit more heavily edited than the others, but this one was about showing the environment, not achieving perfection.

Image 8 has a warm edit. What I love here is the triple reflection of the lamp. I worked with turquoise and orange tones because the combination fits the mood perfectly.

In direct comparison to Image 8 this one has a completely different mood. Much colder and fresher. It could have been taken in winter. But it is the exact same image, just edited differently. That is what I often talk about in my contests. Colors and light create the mood, and this is the perfect example.

Even though these are just a few drone shots, I still connect that morning with the feeling of adventure. We actually thought about skipping it entirely because it was so early, but it was the last possible moment to film this place. And damn it was worth it from my perspective. I would get up at 3 in the morning again any time, just for moments like these.

Ich war damals auf Mallorca und bin extra um 3 Uhr morgens aufgestanden, nur um diesen Sonnenaufgang mitzunehmen. Ich habe gehofft dass es sich lohnen würde und ehrlich gesagt war es einer der schönsten Momente, die ich je mit der Drohne eingefangen habe. Die Luft war kühl und das Meer komplett ruhig, @annasdiary war auch dabei. Genau diese Mischung hat das Ganze zu etwas besonderen gemacht.

Bild 1 zeigt den Leuchtturm von Mallorca. Ich habe extra darauf geachtet, dass man im Hintergrund die Felsen sieht und dass das Licht vom Turm genau auf den Sensor fällt. Ich hätte ein bisschen weiter zurück gemusst, aber trotzdem finde ich, dass es eine richtig starke Aufnahme geworden ist. Ich habe das Ganze bewusst silber metallisch editiert, so kommen Struktur und Stimmung einfach besser raus.

In Bild 2 sieht man den Weg, den man bis zum Leuchtturm fahren muss. Ich liebe die Szene, weil man richtig schön erkennt, wie diesig und neblig der Sonnenaufgang war. Die Wolken waren unfassbar dicht, haben sich aber später komplett aufgelöst. Der Turm ist hier in der linken Hälfte und der Weg führt eigentlich wunderbar dorthin. Nur ist der Weg im Vordergrund etwas dominanter, als ich es wollte. Aber mit der kleinen Drohne wäre alles andere einfach komisch herausgekommen.

Bild 3

Bild 3 ist ähnlich wie das erste, aber heller editiert. Ich wollte, dass man die komplette Küstenlinie sieht. Hier wirkt es so, als würde die Küste ewig weiterlaufen und dann in diese Kurve übergehen. Bei Bild 1 hingegen erkennt man eher zwei rausragende Felszacken, also dieselbe Stelle, aber ein ganz anderer Eindruck.

Bild 4 habe ich bewusst melancholisch bearbeitet. Mit einem Mix aus orange gelben Tönen und gleichzeitig einem silbernen Look. Hier sieht man richtig schön den Sonnenaufgang und wie ruhig das Wasser war. Das ist eines meiner Lieblingsbilder aus der ganzen Serie.

Bild 5 ist ähnlich wie Bild 4, nur aus einer leicht anderen Position. Der Leuchtturm selbst leuchtet hier gar nicht, das war Absicht. Die Sonne war hinter dem Turm und ich wollte nur das natürliche Licht einfangen. Deshalb ist die Bearbeitung auch wesentlich dunkler gehalten. Es geht hier rein um den Mood des Sonnenlichts.

Foto 6 ist im Grunde eine abgewandelte Version von Bild 1. Hier habe ich den Fokus stärker auf den Turm gesetzt. Der Hintergrund ist etwas unschärfer und weniger beleuchtet, was dem Bild mehr Tiefe gibt. Dadurch kommt der Turm viel klarer zur Geltung.

Bild 7 zeigt mich selbst. Leider war der Vordergrund etwas zu dunkel, also habe ich ihn später angepasst. Ich wollte hier einfach mal zeigen, wie die Küste ausgesehen hat. Ich bin extra diesen Felsen hochgeklettert, um diese Perspektive zu bekommen. Etwas stärker bearbeitet als die anderen, aber es ging mir ums Gesamtbild und nicht um Perfektion.

Bild 8

Bild 8 ist ein warmer Edit, bei dem ich besonders die Dreifachspiegelung der Lampe liebe. Ich habe hier bewusst mit Türkis und Orangetönen gearbeitet. Diese Kombination passt perfekt zu dieser Stimmung.

Bild 9

Direkt im Vergleich zu Bild 8 und komplett anderes Stimmungsbild. Viel kälter und frischer. Könnte genauso gut im Winter aufgenommen worden sein. Ist aber exakt dasselbe Bild, nur anders bearbeitet. Das ist das, worüber ich in meinen Wettbewerben spreche. Farben und Licht erzeugen Stimmung. Und hier sieht man das einfach perfekt.

Auch wenn es nur ein paar Drohnenaufnahmen sind, diesen Morgen verbinde ich immer wieder mit "Abenteuer". Wir hatten morgens noch überlegt es sein zulassen, aber es war zeitlich die letzte Chance diese Aufnahmen zu machen. Damn hat sich das gelohnt (aus meiner Sicht).
Ich würde jederzeit wieder um 3 Uhr morgens aufstehen, nur für genau solche Augenblicke.
