SPARE the rod and SPOIL the Child
Spare the rod and spoil the Child
He who loves, disciplines and gives correction.
Even though I'm yet to become a father or a parent, I always celebrate my parent and all others fathers and mothers out there during their celebrated days, and also myself because I believe base on the proper up bringing our parent sowed in us our children will definitely digest same discipline and even better than what we we're taught.
I was born in the 90s, so I was raised in the times when parents made it clear and strict that they were the authority, and itslike a culture that not even your parent alone would raise you, I don't mean financially but respectfully and morally. You dare not dress inappropriate and even when your parent are not around the neighbors uses repelling words to reset your brain. Back in the days parents ain't just the ones training a child but the whole community,
Countless times my mom would imposed discipline on me and my siblings in different styles, grounded from going out for like a week, time for watching television shouldn't be past eight at night, punished for violating any rules they set for us to abide. Back then when I was younger everything for me feels like a tragedy and I wondered if my parent hated me, how funny that was, well I was young I just thought life was enjoyment and live the life anyhow and without principles.
There was a time I was flogged and I threatened to leave the house an not come back thinking I knew a single thing I was doing or saying, haha haha children behavior I would say.
I won't leave out the encouraging part after the serious whooping and scolding they would still later come back sometimes with delicious food or snacks I loved and talked sense and rules to me. They made reason deep and understand that the whooping wasn't like they hate me but they LOVE me more rather.
Fast forward to today when I remembered those times I know that each of those strict discipline and morals which at no time were exaggerated or administered on abuse and mistreatment. I earned it and it kept me on the right track.
But today's children rather youths are shocking, what we call the GenZ are even in control of their parents, I now wondered what we become of them if they're now adults, which means no one can correct them on wrong doings? When the root is bad the whole tree becomes lifeless. This becomes more difficult as a grown up so its better they get disciplined at early age.
Partially the western pattern of child training affect the African way of training. Its now difficult to speak to your child without his or her saying you should watch your words, i dare not talk back at my parent, I dare not look them in the eyes when been scolded but some parents this days will be suggesting to visit a therapists, the African way will be direct discipline nothing less.
its true that they ain't no perfect parental system and they'll make minor mistakes and in a respectful manner you approach and give your opinion.
Thanks for reading through.
