One thing I will change if I had the power to

Hello, to all the members of this community. I'm so happy to be a part of this week's writing prompt.
For this particular prompt, I have a lot to say, but i will keep it brief. There are so many things that I would say that I wish to change. In fact, I could say that I want every single thing right now to change. Things are going south and going downhill on a daily basis, and this is happening really fast. People, especially in this part of the world, Nigeria, where i and my family reside, are getting worse. People are so filled with bitterness and sadness that it is almost becoming a rarity to hear anyone say good things or not open their mouth to speak but let out a sigh or talk with the pains very evident in their words.
Things are so difficult right now.

In my post yesterday(not in this community), I stated briefly that I am job searching. I'm a graduate who made good grades, but ever since graduation, I've not found anything to do. The very few job offers that I have gotten pay far less than minimum wage. And even if I had accepted any one of them, by my calaculation, I would be spending the entire salary on transportation with nothing left as change. This is even the situation of many other graduates. A good number have had to resort to taking on jobs with very low paychecks, some have to get into jobs not in alignment with their qualifications, some other resort to businesses just to manage but a great number are out of jobs totally.

Right now, if I had the means, the one thing I will change is in the area of job opportunities availability. And I am not merely talking about just making jobs available for the teeming population who graduate from higher institutions yearly, I must also make sure that these jobs pay them well enough to cater to their needs and ensure they live comfortable lives. There are different areas that need people to handle them, it is just bad that corrupt people are in charge of certain executive positions of power and are only concerned about giving out roles to those for whom they get something in return irrespective of whether the person is qualified or not.

Many have resorted to doing all sorts of evil for money, and i am not even trying to justify their acts, but things are hard. Things are becoming expensive. Even eating is a problem as the cost of feeding and food items are skyrocketing. People must eat to survive. It's hard not to even blame anyone cause this is as important as it is a cause of big problems. Just get people meaningfully engaged so they can fend for themselves, and we'll say that a part of our problems as a society will be reduced. That's my point.

The issue of lack of job opportunities is really affecting a lot of people in the country. It's sad how one would spend time and money in school, only to graduate and be seeking for opportunities and locating none.

I wish this can be changed but as it stands, being self employed is the way out. It would be wise if the youths also take their time to learn some profitable skills even while studying. The government don't look like they want to change anytime soon.

Thanks for sharing

Wonderful write up, you did a great job here sincerely, u can actually fit in and understand your point clearly because am also wearing the same shoes as you, I graduated last year with good grades as well but omo I have been home, job searching and all.

To be sincere I got job offers and all their pays wasn't up to 20k the job with higher amount I got was 15k which is really sad and my friends were like do it nau some of us don't even have 5k job talk more of 15k job I just laughed at them and told them I could refer them instead they all shouted no😂 can you imagine?

According to them, it is better than staying at home but it's really far from that, we are not looking for this jobs to stay busy and go out everyday, we are looking for this job to earn a living, support our parents and younger ones. I haven't even talked about the transport I will spend everyday going and coming back lol it's really crazy honestly.

I remember last month I submitted my application to a school and they told me they would call me back omo till now oh I haven't seen any call or even missed their call, at some point I was almost depressed. I was walking up and down, sometimes I would sit at a lonely corner and cry so hard still no job 😂 but the good thing about myself is the fact that I could cry and feel very relieved and very okay and it happened that I always applied crying to difficult times, my friend would always tell me that am weak but I said no I am not weak that's my own way of relieving myself off pain that I have been keeping for so long.

So don't tell me am weak, the situation of our country is frustrating honestly. I really think something should be done oh before something happens to someone truth be told. Nigeria is actually a blessed Country, but it is not possible to see that because our leaders have decided to chop they money alone and have so much slaves working for them.
Omo God help us.
