Learning the traditional way
I just read the prompt and had some sort of flashback that made me burst out in laughter. Something that has never crossed my mind since then. I guess that I can appreciate those who put together this prompt because by reason of it, I not just go back in time in my head, but I would come to learn something unique about my personality.
This was so many years ago. I just finished high school, and my parents wanted me to not stay idle but learn a skill until I gained entry into the university. At that time, every other fresh out of high school kid was going for computer training. It was what was in vogue and because my mum liked it, she said I should go for it, too. But I had a small issue then which was that I was very timid and shy and so I wanted to not go and learn from any computer shop. I knew some kids from my neighborhood and church who all went to the one popular training shop i was certain going to, but we all weren't cool, so that wasn't just for me. The only problem then was that neither me nor my parents saw how that would work because apart from making thr tutor come to the house, which was not going to work, the digital world had not advanced to this point where we have zoom/virtual learning or could comfortably learn almost anything online.
As fate would have it, one of my mother's friend's son said he had a compilation of videos on Excel and the rest that helped him with his own training and so sent them to my mother's laptop which I was to use and from then began my journey to being a techie. Wait! Wait! Hold up! What did I just say? "Me," "journey," and "techie" in one sentence? Lol, that's a lie. I did not even start anything. Watching those videos was too convenient and extremely boring. Only five minutes in, and I'd be drowsy. It took me a little over a week to finish just one video in the series, and there were lots of them. I couldn't even practice what I was learning because I didn't understand.
I was just deceiving myself for about a month until I told my parents that I'd prefer the physical training. I know I gave them one silly excuse for my change of heart.
The one-on-one classes proved beneficial to me. The classes were simplified and taken in bits with class works and assignments to back them up. Not to mention that being in a group with other students who were eager to learn boosted my spirits.
I leverage on both learning methods to get what I want because there are gains to both sides and although many people would say that times have changed and we're in the virtual era, which is correct, it seems to me that I am used to the traditional method of learning which I grew up with.
To this day, as much as I like virtual learning for the convenience it provides, especially to me who says from gatherings and all, I would pick a physical class, for most, not all my lessons and courses, because it is a quicker and more practical way to learn.

Learning with people helps, especially when self-motivation is a struggle. Something you'd typically have to deal with on your own. How long did it take to finish it when you switched over to one-on-one?
The training was supposed to be for one year but I did not stay until the end of it because something came up.

You're right.... physical classes are still better for a lot of cases and virtual learning is also better for some.
I'd pick virtual over physical, because of the ease and all, but physical classes are still more interesting.
