KEEPING PROMISES TO CHILDREN || The Old Path || MCGI

Promises are serious commitments, especially when made to children. Hope and trust is what a promise gives. But when broken, it can lead to disappointment, hurt, and even mistrust in future relationships.

Children are often the victims of broken promises because they lack the power to question or hold adults accountable.

The Bible strongly warns us about making promises and not fulfilling them. In Ecclesiastes 5:4–5 (KJV), it says:

“When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.”

This verse teaches that it is wiser not to make a promise at all than to make one and fail to keep it.

Also, in Proverbs 13:12 (KJV):

“Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.”

When you delay or deny a promised hope, especially to a child, it can hurt deeply. But when you fulfill it, it brings joy and strengthens the relationship.

Let your words be dependable, especially with young ones. A good name, as Proverbs 22:1 says, is better than riches. So, instead of making many promises, do what you can, and let your actions speak.
