NETWORK GLITCH

Clear as day, I remember that day. It was in first semester of my second year in the university. It was the day when we were to write our first paper for the semester. As happens, we were asked to come with certain documents and I did. Or i didn't.

So when it was time for students to go into the examination hall, which they were only allowed passage when they produce the required receipts and documents, I wasn't let in. Apparently, I only had two of my documents as opposed to three. And the one I didn't have was much more important to gaining entrance than the other two.

It was no problem, I thought, since all I had to do was login into my school profile, go by the cyber Cafe which was within the premises and get the stuff printed. Problem started when I couldn't access my profile. I kept refreshing and refreshing, turning airplane mode off and on, all to no avail. I even had to buy paper data as I thought that maybe I had run out of it and since I couldn't access my mobile app. Nothing worked. Then I started to panic a little.

I couldn't go to the cyber cafe and ask them to do the thing from their end cause I didn't know my login details by heart. One of my siblings always took care of all my school online troubles, from running my registrations to payments to printing, so I've never had to do anything of that sort myself. My panic doubled.

I tried to get through to him via calls, but it wasn't even connecting. By this time, students were already settled in the hall. I was already getting hysterical. Then it occurred to me to go by the ICT centre of my school and see if I'd find any of my brother's friends who worked there, one of whom has all my logins, to seek help. Gaining access to that section was quite difficult, plus one was required to be a lecturer at the school(with ID to show) or to know someone inside. I could get in there somehow, but the distance was something else.

I had to do something, so I decided to make the run for it. I was just going by the exam hall when my exams and records officer asked why I wasn't inside writing like my mates. I explained, he cautioned me, took one of my slips, penned his signature, and instructed that I should come personally to him the next day to show the other receipts. I was so glad I heaved a sigh.

I got into the hall minutes late, but I didn't mind. At least, I wouldn't have to resit the exam the next year.

That wasn't the only network glitch incident. There's been others, like when I had to sit hours at a store to wait for the salesperson to confirm my transaction before I could be let to go and so I ended up getting home late at night.
Or, when I made multiple transactions that were shown to have failed, only to get home and receive debit alerts from all three trials. This one made me very pissed.

That's stuff happens. It just happens. It only feels terrible when one is in a rush or having an emergency. Then, it sucks.

Thanks for gracing this post.
Greetings

The sitting for hours to wait for payment confirmation is something that scarce me a lot. I hate it but i once did it to people effortlessly...when I worked as a cashier 😅

Who'd you explain this story to if you had missed you exams? There exams would have gone. Thankfully, that didn't happen. But waiting on end for a complete money transfer is another level of frustration. I sometimes leave the good, take the salesperson's number, she ask for a refund when they get it.

Would I even have been able to tell the story well enough to make it make sense?...good thing all went well.

With giving the salesperson your number, that works, too. Sometimes. However, not all of them would let you go. If they begin to narrate their ordeals about failed transactions and some customers unwilling to take their calls or send the money plus with fake alerts, you'll just pity them.
That's why I like to move around with cash walahi. I no get strength laidat.
