The cold morning weather and cloudy skies made Azov State University's new students from many majors very lazy about going to class. The first class of Russian Literature made Elena a little nervous. She majored in International Relations and took this course because it was required. She doesn’t know Russian history, Russian literature at all, and even really master the Russian language. Elena could only surrender knowing her situation.

"Don't worry, Elena! At first I didn't really speak Russian either. After a while I could do it myself," said Tania.

"Yes, but I'm still really nervous, Tan. The language is complicated!" Elena answered confused.

Tania chuckled at Elena's response. The two of them had just started becoming friends in the last few months before college started. Elena was born and raised in Indonesia. Both of his parents are also from Indonesia, only his father is of Chinese & Russian descent. Elena, a girl with a typical Indonesian face shares her mother's shy nature.

Tania, Elena's friend, is also an Indonesian studying in Russia. She also took the same major and courses as Elena.

"Eh, El! Oi! Who are you looking at? You're gawking like that?" Tania asked while nudging Elena.

"Uh?!" Elena was embarrassed.

"Ohh... You saw the guy who just came, didn't you?" Tania teased.

"What the hell. No. I just think I've seen him before. But I forgot where," answered Elena.

A tall, sturdy guy with a flat face as if he doesn’t pay attention to his surroundings, walking from the classroom door and sitting at the very back. He was like a walking statue because of his expressionless attitude, Elena thought.
"I've also seen him on campus. Not bad, but for me he's too cool. If you like such a guy like that, that's fine," said Tania frankly.

"What are you talking about, Tan?! " said Elena amused.

Elena really felt like she had seen this guy before. She became curious either see him somewhere or just someone who looks like him. Yes, the guy who caught Elena's attention is Aleksandr Stalin or Alez. They met in the same course at that time.

The lecturers have started to introduce themselves and are starting to introduce courses on Russian literature. Lecturers also teach in Russian, unlike other courses that are not related to Russia, they use English. Azov State is an international university which requires students to be able to speak English and Russian.

One night, Elena is walking home from a cafe near her apartment. She was alone there just wanted to go out to eat and enjoy the night air of the city. Passing a rather quiet road, there were several men sitting on the side of the road. They were about 4 or 5 foreign men.

Elena, who was shocked and immediately knew that the men are suspicious, immediately turned around. She tried to be as natural as possible without appearing evasive. But it seemed like it was too late. Elena's movement avoiding them was immediately followed by a group of foreigners. Elena couldn't really see their faces. What she knew was that they will definitely have evil intentions.

"Hey, girl, you're alone at this time of night!" one of them said in Russian.

"Yes. That's right. Not good," said another friend.

Elena started to get blocked in her path by this group of people. She started to worry and be afraid because she was just a girl alone and the place was quiet.

"What do you guys want? I want to pass. Move!" said Elena whose voice was starting to shake trying to be brave.

"Oh, you're not from here, it seems. Not a Russian girl. That's fine though," said the man again.

"Okay, let's just take what you have. Jewelry and all the money. Then we just have to leave."

"Wait a minute, don't rush!" said the other man to his friend.

"Please all of you move aside or I will scream!" said Elena interrupting.
"I want to talk to you first. You can't go anywhere. You know that," answered the man again.

Elena immediately ignored their words. She closed her eyes and dared to escape from them by breaking through the gaps where they were standing around her.

Elena's hand then squeezed one of them and threw Elena back into their midst like a stage spectacle. She was immediately pushed and almost hit a nearby wall. She turned around and found the five of them looking at her helplessly.

"LEAVE!"

Suddenly a voice was heard from the opposite direction behind the criminals. His voice type is heavy, high and firm. Elena turned her head in the direction the voice came from. He felt very relieved that someone could help her.

"What? What did you say, brat?! How dare you! Try repeating that again," one of the men spoke to the boy who was now standing very close to them.

"I said, LEAVE!" the boy said again a little louder without any fear.

"Oh hey answer me, who is she, huh? Your girlfriend?" the man asked Elena while laughing contemptuously.

Then the man approached the boy with his deep voice who was not far from him. Without further ado, he immediately threw his fist at the boy's face.

The villain's blow hit the corner of his lips. The criminal wanted to hit him again but the boy immediately avoided him and immediately pulled the criminal's clothes and then hit the criminal in the face.

Buuuukkk!!! The blow directly hit the criminal's face, specifically his nose, until he almost fell. His nose was bleeding.

His other friends couldn't stay silent either. They immediately wanted to gang up on the guy after seeing their friend being hit. But immediately from behind the tree there was someone dressed all in black and wearing black glasses threatening the criminals who were about to gang up on them to leave immediately.

After they saw a man wearing black from behind the tree, they all immediately dispersed and left, leaving the boy and Elena.

"Thank you, Peter", the boy said to the man in black then he left.

"Hey you... Thank you," said Elena, still shocked by what she had just seen. Plus a guy who turns out to know her, a guy in her Russian literature class who helps her, Alez.

"Hmm. It's better not to go down this road again," he said in his characteristic deep and flat voice.

"Yeah. I still don't really know my way around here so... Yes... So. You... Are you okay? You look like you're hurt," Elena asked looking at the corners of Alez's lips which were slightly bleeding.

"I can see it," Alez answered briefly.

"My name is Elena. What's your name?"

"Alez."
