My Young Uncle's Wedding in Bali

Hello everyone! How are you doing today? Hopefully, you're all doing great! So, now I am going to share about my family in Bali Island, Indonesia. I got an invitation from my uncle who was from Bali. His name is Ida Bagus Giri Asmara and he is a nice uncle. Unfortunately, I could not come to attend the ceremony. My mother got invited too and she came to the wedding in Bali. I think she was really excited to go there because she could also go traveling there. She stayed in Bali for four days. As you know, Bali has so many tourism places to go and we would never get bored there, guaranteed.

Bali is known as an island which has the strong cultural rituals. There are so many celebrations held in Bali and still do cultural rituals. The wedding moments are included. The Balinese have to follow the rituals and can not be missed not even a single one.

The marriage is one of the biggest and special moment for everyone, especially in Bali society. I will explain about the procession of the wedding in Bali.

  1. Determining a good date
After the groom proposed the bride, they determined a good date for wedding day. They must do it because it influences the wedding ceremony and their new life as a married couple.

  2. Ngekeb ceremony
This ceremony is for preparation of the bride to welcome the groom later. It has to pray to God Ida Sang Hyang Widhi for a happy household.

  3. Picking up the bride
The day when the bride is picked up by the groom, she must wear a Bali traditional clothes which has determined.

  4. Mungkah lawang
This is the process when the groom's family knocking the bride's bedroom. It accompanied by typical Balinese songs. Then, the bride is taken to the groom's house.

  5. Mesegeh agung
This is the symbol of welcoming speech. So, before the bride and the groom entered the house, a yellow shawl which is worn by the bride is lifted by future mother in law.

  6. Mabyakala
The procession of purge ceremony. So, the bride and the groom do the purge for getting offspring or descendant quickly.

  7. Mewidhi Widana
They do the prayers in the prayer's place of the groom or "pura". This procession is for telling the ancestors that there is a new comers or new family member who continue the lineage.

  8. Mejauman
This ritual is for saying goodbye to bride's ancestors that she has to move in the groom's house.

So, those are the wedding procesion that must be carried out according to Balinese traditions. I only give the simple informations so that you guys can get it well.

Let's take a look some pictures I got from my mother. There are located in Batuan, Gianyar, Bali.

Finally after the ceremony, tomorrow morning the were going to Tegenungan Waterfall to take a walk and enjoy the panorama. I can see my mother was so happy being there ^^

Sadly, I could not go there and come to the wedding. I was disappointed even more when I saw these pictures which is given by mother. She could meet all family in Bali and they are so humble and kind people. They always welcome and hope us to go vacation and stay there for holiday. I promise them that I would go to Bali as soon as I can, maybe next year. They always wait for us to come and very excited to welcome us.

Thank you guys for reading my story today. Hope you all like it and maybe interested in visiting Bali for holiday someday. It would be so fun and unforgettable holiday ever! ^^
