Greetings, fellow craft lovers! Welcome back to my workshop @bricolajedc. Today, I invite you to learn about the creative process behind one of my doodles inspired by a Splinterlands Elemental Phoenix card. Join me and I'll show you a little bit about the process.

Saludos amigos amantes de las artes manuales! Sean bienvenidos una vez más a mi taller @bricolajedc. En esta oportunidad los invito a conocer el proceso creativo de uno de mis garabatos inspirado en una carta de Splinterlands Elemental Phoenix. Acompáñenme y les muestro un poco el proceso.

The art of Zentangle* at an advanced level is a profound, almost meditative experience that allows you to connect with your most instinctive creativity. It is not just about drawing patterns or tracing lines; it is a form of visual introspection where every stroke has a purpose and energy.

El arte del Zentangle* en un nivel avanzado es una experiencia profunda, casi meditativa, que permite conectar con la creatividad más instintiva de cada persona. No se trata solo de dibujar patrones o trazar líneas; es una forma de introspección visual donde cada trazo tiene un propósito y una energía.

In my case, for this composition, I decided to draw inspiration from a powerful and meaningful symbol: the feather of the phoenix, inspired by the Elemental Phoenix card from Splinterlands. This emblem of rebirth, fire, and transformation served as my guide in creating a work that not only explored the technical complexity of Zentangle, but also the emotional force behind each design.

En mi caso, para esta composición decidí inspirarme en un símbolo poderoso y lleno de significado: la pluma del ave fénix, inspirada en la carta Elemental Phoenix de Splinterlands. Este emblema de renacimiento, fuego y transformación me sirvió de guía para crear una obra que no solo explorara la complejidad técnica del Zentangle, sino también la fuerza emocional detrás de cada diseño.

When I started the sketch, I already knew that I didn't want to limit myself to basic patterns. But I always get carried away, and what started out as a single feather turned into a trail of feathers left behind by the bird as it flew by.

Cuando comencé el boceto, ya tenía claro que no quería limitarme a los patrones básicos. Pero siempre me dejo llevar y lo que al principio era una sola pluma se convirtió en una estela de plumas que dejó el ave al pasar volando.

Advanced Zentangle offered me the possibility of playing with depth, textures, and contrasts. I used heavyweight opaline paper, ideal for withstanding the repetitive strokes and layers of ink I was going to superimpose. I started by drawing an elongated, stylized, and elegant feather that represented the essence of the phoenix: light, but with a burning inner energy.

This element was the central structure of my doodle, in other words, it was my main axis, and from it I developed patterns, more feathers, and shadows.

The curved and wavy strokes were essential to convey movement, as if the feathers were floating in mid-flight or floating among the embers of the fire. In the denser areas, I used high-contrast patterns, with thick lines and intense dots, to create a sense of depth.

In some sections of the paper, I also opted for softer, almost ethereal patterns, achieving a visual balance reminiscent of smoke rising after a fire. For me, this mixture of dense and light symbolizes the process of rebirth: first you hit rock bottom, burn everything old, and then rise with new energy.

El Zentangle avanzado me ofrecía la posibilidad de jugar con la profundidad, las texturas y los contrastes. Utilicé papel opalina de gramaje alto, ideal para resistir los trazos repetitivos y las capas de tinta que iba a superponer. Empecé dibujando una pluma alargada, estilizada y elegante, que representara la esencia del fénix: ligera, pero con una energía interior ardiente.

Este elemento fue mi estructura central del garabato, en otras palabras fue mi eje principal, y a partir de ella se desplegaron patrones, más plumas y sombras.

Los trazos curvos y ondulados fueron esenciales para transmitir movimiento, como si las plumas estuvieran flotando en pleno vuelo o flotando entre brasas del fuego. En las zonas más densas utilicé patrones de contraste alto, con líneas gruesas y puntos intensos, para crear la sensación de profundidad.

También en algunos tramos del papel opté por patrones más suaves, casi etéreos, logrando un equilibrio visual que recordara al humo elevándose después del fuego. Esa mezcla entre lo denso y lo ligero simboliza, para mí, el proceso de renacer: primero se toca fondo, se quema todo lo viejo, y luego se asciende con una nueva energía.

Working with advanced Zentangle allowed me to combine techniques: I used a blending stump to soften some shadows and add volume, a black gel pen with a 0.5 mm tip for the most precise details, and a metallic gold marker to highlight certain contours that evoked the luminosity of fire. In one corner of the paper, I added a mandala-like design.

Trabajar con el Zentangle avanzado me permitió combinar técnicas: usé difumino para suavizar algunas sombras y dar volumen, un bolígrafo de gel negro de punta 0.5 mm para los detalles más precisos, y marcador dorado metálico para resaltar ciertos contornos que evocaran la luminosidad del fuego. En una esquina del papel como tipo mándala.

That golden glow became a focal point that guided the viewer's gaze to the corner of the composition, where the drawing's greatest symbolic significance was concentrated.

What fascinates me most about advanced Zentangle is the freedom it offers. Unlike basic compositions, where patterns are usually well defined and delimited, at this stage I was able to merge elements, deform figures, and create organic transitions as I like to do in my doodles.

In my phoenix pen, the edges of some patterns intentionally dissolved into fluid shapes, as if the fire were slowly consuming them. This created an atmosphere of constant transformation, exactly what I wanted to convey.

Ese brillo dorado se convirtió en un punto focal que guiaba la mirada del espectador hacia la esquina de la composición, donde se concentraba la mayor carga simbólica del dibujo.

Lo que más me fascina del Zentangle avanzado es la libertad que ofrece. A diferencia de las composiciones básicas, donde los patrones suelen estar bien definidos y delimitados, en esta etapa pude fusionar elementos, deformar figuras y crear transiciones orgánicas como me gusta hacer en mis garabatos.

En mi pluma del fénix, los bordes de algunos patrones se disolvían intencionalmente en formas fluidas, como si el fuego los consumiera poco a poco. Esto generó una atmósfera de transformación constante, exactamente lo que quería transmitir.

As I drew, I felt that each line represented a fragment of my own artistic rebirth. The phoenix is not just a mythological figure; it is a metaphor for life itself, for the times we reinvent ourselves, leaving the old behind to emerge stronger. Thus, each stroke became an affirmation of change, each shadow a lesson learned, and each golden flash a new opportunity.

When I finished the piece, I paused to observe the details: the contrasts, the overlapping patterns, the textures that emerged from the paper. It was as if the pen vibrated with its own energy, a mixture of fire and calm, of destruction and beauty. I felt a deep satisfaction, not only for the visual result, but for what the process taught me.

Mientras dibujaba, sentí que cada línea representaba un fragmento de mi propio renacer artístico. El fénix no solo es una figura mitológica; es una metáfora de la vida misma, de las veces que nos reinventamos, que dejamos atrás lo viejo para resurgir más fuertes. Así, cada trazo se convirtió en una afirmación de cambio, cada sombra en una lección aprendida, y cada destello dorado en una nueva oportunidad.

Al finalizar la obra, me detuve a observar los detalles: los contrastes, los patrones superpuestos, las texturas que emergían del papel. Era como si la pluma vibrara con su propia energía, una mezcla de fuego y calma, de destrucción y belleza. Sentí una profunda satisfacción, no solo por el resultado visual, sino por lo que el proceso me enseñó.
