A Day in Cannobio Italy: Camping Feels Without the Campsite

It's always fun to go out and explore new places, especially if it's your first time visiting a destination you once only dreamed of.

Hi dear Hivers and @worldmappin fam! Today, let me share with you my summer vacation in Europe — and this time, I’ll take you to Italy.

The day we went to Italy was actually the birthday of my boyfriend’s older brother. Originally, his parents were supposed to join us, but in the end it was just the four of us—me, Dominik (my boyfriend), Mathias (his brother), and Ella (his girlfriend). Mathias and Ella were already a day ahead of us because they went earlier for camping.

We drove to Cannobio Italy on Mathias’ birthday. Before leaving the house, we packed our things and booked a hotel for one night. The place was actually within a campsite, but we chose not to camp since we didn’t have a camper van and we also wanted a more comfortable stay—so a hotel was the best option for us.

Once everything was set, we left the house and started our 2–3 hour drive. It was a fun road trip, especially since it was our first long drive together. We had great conversations in the car with energetic music playing in the background. I really enjoyed the mountain views, and passing through Switzerland felt magical. I almost cried when I saw the turquoise water and the breathtaking landscapes. This places I only used to see in pictures, and now I was finally seeing them with my own eyes.

We also passed by Lago Maggiore, and I was so happy to finally see it. It’s absolutely wonderful—and also one of the famous lakes in Italy!

When we arrived, we looked for our hotel and parked so we could check in. After that, we took our things out of the car and brought them to our room. A few minutes later, we headed to the nearby campsite, which was just across the street from our hotel. Our friends were already there, enjoying great conversations with beer and music.

It was such a nice campsite—people had their own mobile camper vans, and it felt so relaxing under the shade of the trees. We stayed there for a few minutes before everyone decided to head to a nearby Italian restaurant for dinner. We sat at one long table since there were many of us, including kids. The restaurant was called Torchio. We ordered pizza, of course—one of the most famous dishes in Italy—and a few other delicious meals. We paired everything with white wine to complete the experience. The food was really good, and we were all so full afterward.

Then we went for a walk by the lake. It was quite a long walk for me, but I enjoyed every moment with them. Since it was already nighttime, we decided to look for another restaurant, this time just for drinks. We spent the rest of the evening there, talking and enjoying our drinks.

Eventually, everyone headed back to their campsite while we went back to our hotel. We needed to rest because the next day we were planning to return to the area for the big Sunday market—where you can find so many things like food, clothes, accessories, bags, and more.

And then the day of the Sunday market finally came. We decided to have breakfast first at our hotel, and afterward, we started walking, passing by the campsites just to look around as well. We really enjoyed our sunny morning walk until we reached the market area. There were so many people and cars parked everywhere.

As we got closer, we saw a wide variety of stores lined up, and it was up to you to choose which ones you wanted to check out. I was so happy to see it because it reminded me of the weekend markets in the Philippines.

The most exciting part, of course, was the food. You could actually get full just from all the free tastes they offered! There were so many options—salami, cheese, dried fruits, pastries, and a lot more. It was truly a fun day for all of us. We bought a few clothes—just for me—but of course we didn’t leave without getting salami and cheese! We both said that we definitely need to come back next time because the items are so affordable and there are so many great options to choose from.

We went back to the hotel with big smiles on our faces. It was such a fun and lovely adventure for us. I hope you also enjoyed this quick trip to Cannobio!

Until The Next Adventure!
