Art Journal: Solitude by the Lake in Coffee โ๐๏ธ
Hello, Hiver friends and fellow art enthusiasts! How are you all doing? In this post, I painted another interesting nature scene using coffee as a medium.
There's something special about the moment by a solitary tree by the water. This piece draws you into a serene landscape view, featuring a big tree standing by a calm lake. The coffee tones were rendered beautifully, capturing the quiet atmosphere. It's a reminder that we can find the beauty and comfort of a quiet moment.
I used three painting brushes to complete this piece, which took me an hour. For those interested in trying this unique medium, follow the step-by-step basic methods below.
Materials Needed:
๐ Watercolor Paper, sketching Paper, or stretched canvas
๐ Pencil and Eraser
๐ Coffee Powder
๐ 2 small cups ( lighter and darker shades)
๐ Ruler
๐ Clean Water
๐ Rag
๐ Paper napkin or paper towel
Brushes:
๐ Flat Brush /small #10, 10/32 / 8.0mm
๐ Liner Brush #2 / 2/32" / 1.6mm
๐ Filbert brush
Note: Keep all the materials ready before you start painting.

Basic Procedure:
โข Outline or sketch your painting reference.
โข Paint using a lighter background shade by creating a beautiful texture.
โข On the middle ground, paint the first layer of the subject.
โข The same procedure as the foreground.
โข Once the first layer is completely dry, you can proceed to paint with a darker shade of coffee.
โข Then add details to bring your painting to life. I used a liner brush for the thin details.
Take note: In putting details, you cannot have sharp lines and shapes unless it is completely dry.

Iโm amazed, I only just found out that coffee can actually be used for painting. Thatโs really what I like about Hive; I get to discover so many new things and learn skills I didnโt even know before.
The result is so beautiful.
