Art Journal: Evening at the Lake with Coffee Painting โ๐๏ธ
Welcome, fellow creative! The world of art blogging is a vibrant and exciting realmโan incredible platform to showcase your work, connect with other artists, and cultivate a thriving community around your passion. Whether you're a seasoned professional or at the beginning of your artistic journey, this is where you'll thrive.
Today, I painted a beautiful piece titled "Evening at the Lake with Coffee." The rich, dark hues of coffee were perfect for capturing the essence of a serene evening by the water. I utilized varied shades and intensities to depict a landscape where the sun, in a deep burnt umber, gracefully dipped below the horizon, casting long, dramatic shadows across the lake.
The true beauty of coffee painting lies in its earthy tones and organic textures. The imperfections and subtle color variations contribute to an overall sense of tranquility and natural elegance. This coffee painting transcends mere representation; it embodies a feeling, a moment frozen in timeโthe profound peace of an evening at the lake.
I used three types of painting brushes for this piece and it took me an hour to finish it. For those who are interested in trying this unique medium, you can follow the basic methods below.
Materials Needed:
๐ Watercolor Paper or sketching Paper
๐ Pencil and Eraser
๐ Coffee Powder
๐ 2 small cups ( lighter and darker shades)
๐ Ruler
๐ Clean Water
๐ Rag
๐ Paper napkin or paper towel
Brushes:
๐ Flat Brush /small #10, 10/32 / 8.0mm
๐ Liner Brush #2 / 2/32" / 1.6mm
๐ Filbert brush
Note: Keep all the materials ready before you start painting.
Basic Procedure:
โข Outline or sketch your painting reference.
โข Paint using a lighter shade of the background by creating a beautiful texture.
โข On the middle ground, paint the first layer of the subject.
โข The same procedure with the foreground.
โข Once the first layer is completely dry, you can proceed to paint with a darker shade of coffee.
โข Then add details to come alive of your painting. I used a liner brush for the thin details.
Take note: In putting details, you cannot have sharp lines and shapes unless it is completely dry.
