Art Journal: "Blue Gum Trees" Painted in Coffee โ๐๏ธ
Hello, Hiver friends and art enthusiasts! I'm excited to share my latest coffee artwork that I painted today, and I hope it will bring joy to your day. I would love to hear your thoughts on it!
The blue gum tree, Eucalyptus globulus, is not just any tree; itโs a stunning visual symphony of color and texture. Its striking blue-grey foliage shimmers in the sunlight, creating an unmistakable and captivating landscape.
The bark sheds in long, ribbon-like strips, revealing a smooth and vibrant underlayer that ranges from creamy white to reddish-brown. This continuous peeling process gives the tree a dynamic, ever-evolving appearance. The scent is equally distinctiveโa strong, camphoraceous aroma that fills the air, creating a rich sensory experience.
Blue gum trees thrive in groves or forests, presenting a breathtaking spectacle of color and form. Their towering heights and graceful branches stretch towards the sky, exuding grandeur and majesty. They stand as a testament to the beauty and diversity of the natural world, reminding us of the wonders just beyond our daily routines. When you encounter a blue gum tree, take a moment to appreciate its unique beautyโyou won't be disappointed.
I used three types of painting brushes for this piece and it took me an hour to finish it. For those who are interested in trying this unique medium, you can follow the basic methods below.
Materials Needed:
๐ Watercolor Paper or sketching Paper
๐ Pencil and Eraser
๐ Coffee Powder
๐ 2 small cups ( lighter and darker shades)
๐ Ruler
๐ Clean Water
๐ Rag
๐ Paper napkin or paper towel
Brushes:
๐ Flat Brush /small #10, 10/32 / 8.0mm
๐ Liner Brush #2 / 2/32" / 1.6mm
๐ Filbert brush
Note: Keep all the materials ready before you start painting.
Basic Procedure:
โข Outline or sketch your painting reference.
โข Paint using a lighter shade of the background by creating a beautiful texture.
โข On the middle ground, paint the first layer of the subject.
โข The same procedure with the foreground.
โข Once the first layer is completely dry, you can proceed to paint with a darker shade of coffee.
โข Then add details to come alive of your painting. I used a liner brush for the thin details.
Take note: In putting details, you cannot have sharp lines and shapes unless it is completely dry.
