Art Journal: "A Solitary Tree and the Open Road" ☕🖌️

(Edited)

Hello, Hiver friends and fellow art enthusiasts! I am excited to share my latest artwork, created using coffee as a medium, which I believe will capture your interest and evoke thought.

This coffee painting immerses viewers in a serene landscape, skillfully rendered in a dynamic canvas of brown shades. The monochromatic scheme enhances the painting's powerful, evocative qualities enriching the depth and detail of the scene.

In the foreground, a solitary tree stands resolute, its branches reaching toward gently rolling hills beneath a soft sky. A winding path invites the eye to journey beyond the canvas, fostering a sense of exploration and discovery. The delicate depiction of birds adds a vibrant touch, infusing life into an otherwise tranquil setting.

The strength of this composition is rooted in its simplicity. This landscape radiates quiet elegance, offering a profound sense of peace and contemplation. The absence of bright colors directs focus to the interplay of light and shadow and the tonal variations that evoke calmness. It compels the viewer to engage deeply with the artwork, to appreciate the inherent beauty, and to find wonder in nature's simplicity.

This is not merely a painting; it is a meditation on stillness and a visual poem articulated in shades of brown. The use of coffee creates an intriguing layer, signifying warmth and richness while enhancing the sensory experience that goes beyond visual observation. This piece demands attention, inviting viewers to not only look, but to feel, reflect, and ultimately discover tranquility within this coffee-painted landscape.

I used three types of painting brushes for this piece, and it took me an hour to finish it. For those who are interested in trying this unique medium, you can follow the step-by-step basic methods below.

Materials Needed:
👉 Watercolor Paper or sketching Paper
👉 Pencil and Eraser
👉 Coffee Powder
👉 2 small cups ( lighter and darker shades)
👉 Ruler
👉 Clean Water
👉 Rag
👉 Paper napkin or paper towel

Brushes:
👉 Flat Brush /small #10, 10/32 / 8.0mm
👉 Liner Brush #2 / 2/32" / 1.6mm
👉 Filbert brush

Note: Keep all the materials ready before you start painting.

Basic Procedure:
• Outline or sketch your painting reference.
• Paint using a lighter shade of the background by creating a beautiful texture.
• On the middle ground, paint the first layer of the subject.
• The same procedure with the foreground.
• Once the first layer is completely dry, you can proceed to paint with a darker shade of coffee.
• Then add details to come alive of your painting. I used a liner brush for the thin details.

Take note: In putting details, you cannot have sharp lines and shapes unless it is completely dry.
