Art Journal: "A Serene Sunset" βποΈ
Hello, dear Hiver friends and fellow art enthusiasts! I hope this artwork finds you in good spirits on this beautiful Sunday.
This coffee painting beautifully captures the tranquility of a sunset gently settling over a calm body of water. The soft, muted tones of the coffee create a soothing atmosphere, allowing to fully appreciate the delicate details of the scene. The lone tree on the small island serves as a poignant focal point, its reflection perfectly mirrored in the still water, evoking a sense of peace.
The subtle variations in the shades of coffee lend depth and dimension, making the moment feel so real and relatable. The birds gracefully soaring above add a lovely touch of movement, beautifully contrasting with the surrounding stillness. The overall effect is one of serene beauty, like a gentle whisper of time standing still.
In using coffee as a medium shines through in the smooth transitions and the harmonious composition. Itβs truly a captivating piece that invites us to pause, breathe, and reflect. I hope it brings you as much calm and joy as it has for me.
I used three types of painting brushes for this piece, and it took me an hour to finish it. For those who are interested in trying this unique medium, you can follow the step-by-step basic methods below.
Materials Needed:
π Watercolor Paper or sketching Paper
π Pencil and Eraser
π Coffee Powder
π 2 small cups ( lighter and darker shades)
π Ruler
π Clean Water
π Rag
π Paper napkin or paper towel
Brushes:
π Flat Brush /small #10, 10/32 / 8.0mm
π Liner Brush #2 / 2/32" / 1.6mm
π Filbert brush
Note: Keep all the materials ready before you start painting.
Basic Procedure:
β’ Outline or sketch your painting reference.
β’ Paint using a lighter shade of the background by creating a beautiful texture.
β’ On the middle ground, paint the first layer of the subject.
β’ The same procedure with the foreground.
β’ Once the first layer is completely dry, you can proceed to paint with a darker shade of coffee.
β’ Then add details to come alive of your painting. I used a liner brush for the thin details.
Take note: In putting details, you cannot have sharp lines and shapes unless it is completely dry.
