Unique experience: Canfranc Underground Laboratory and the journey from Spain to France for a special place

English

Hello,

It's been almost 2 years since one of those professional experiences that leave a mark, as it was visiting the subway laboratory of Canfranc.

In this laboratory subatomic particles such as neutrinos, dark matter and more unconventional physical phenomena are investigated, for which it is necessary to avoid any environmental radioactivity.

For this purpose, this laboratory is located 800 meters underground, between the Somport road tunnel and the old railway tunnel that connected Spain and France.

I was very impressed to walk a few meters through the tunnel, and see how a complete darkness at the bottom that seemed to have no end.

My entry to #pobphotocontest organized by @friendlymoose

For the exit of the laboratory, the exit to take is towards France, 7km of tunnel without any illumination. In which I remember a certain fear for the total darkness, feeling cold in the middle of August when I took this photograph outside the car without the flash of the camera the only light at that time.

At the end of the road, I was able to leave by the access from France. Contrasting in the middle of August the green color of the Pyrenean mountains with the drier slopes I had previously seen from the south side of the perineum from the Spanish side.

And happy for the experience, I left France to return to Spain, remaining in my memory the fascinating experiments carried out there and very fascinated to travel from Spain to France for a place that very few chosen have the option to do.

Best regards.

Hola,
