Llegó el mes de agosto y con él llegaron los actos de graduación tan esperados por todo el mundo. Ya es costumbre aca en Venezuela poder disfrutar en estos días de esos momentos que enorgullecen a toda una familia.

Ver a nuestros hijos escalar una meta mas es algo que nos alegra la vida y nos hace sentir felices, además para nadie es un secreto que a los venezolanos nos encanta celebrarlo todo.

August has arrived, and with it came the graduation ceremonies that everyone had been eagerly awaiting. It is customary here in Venezuela to enjoy these moments that make the whole family proud.

Seeing our children reach another milestone is something that brings joy to our lives and makes us happy. Besides, it's no secret that Venezuelans love to celebrate everything.

En esta oportunidad estamos felices por nuestra vecina y amiga Andrimar quien ya se graduó de bachiller y le hicieron un acto muy bonito y emotivo en el liceo. Sus padres super orgullosos trataron de darle lo mejor a su querida hija y es por eso que me encargaron que le elaborara un birrete muy especial.

This time, we are happy for our neighbor and friend Andrimar, who has just graduated from high school and had a beautiful and emotional ceremony at her school. Her parents, who are very proud, wanted to give their beloved daughter the best, which is why they asked me to make her a very special cap.

Este birrete tenía unas características distintas a los que normalmente había elaborado y es que la moda de este año fue colocarle una corona encima del birrete, además de colocarle la frase “En honor a mis padres” y decorarse con flores y otras cosas más.

Como les dije, a los venezolanos nos encanta esto, nos gusta la alegría, lo bonito, salirnos de lo común y por eso cada año se reinventan cosas bellas.

This cap had some different features from the ones I had normally made, because this year's fashion was to place a crown on top of the cap, as well as the phrase “In honor of my parents” and decorate it with flowers and other things.

As I said, we Venezuelans love this. We like joy, beauty, and doing things that are out of the ordinary, which is why every year we reinvent beautiful things.

Los materiales para elaborar este birrete son:

• Fomi blanco escarchado
• Cartón kilo
• La corona
• Marabú
• Silicón
• Lentejuelas
• Perla corrida blanca y plateadas
• Mariposas
• Flores

The materials needed to make this cap are:

• White frosted foam
• Cardboard
• The crown
• Marabou
• Silicone
• Sequins
• White and silver pearl beads
• Butterflies
• Flowers

Paso a paso:

• Cortamos el cartón y el foami de 30x30 centímetros.
• Cortamos una tira larga de cartón y foami de acuerdo al cilindro del cráneo del estudiante, en este caso fue de 56x10 centímetros, y se agregan dos centímetros más para pegar.
• Al ancho de esa tira en cartón kilo se le deja una medida de un centímetro para cortar la pestaña que ira pegada al cuadrado superior, así como se ve en la imagen.

Step by step:

• Cut the cardboard and foam into 30x30 centimeter pieces.
• Cut a long strip of cardboard and foam to fit the cylinder of the student's skull, in this case 56x10 centimeters, and add two more centimeters for gluing.
• Leave a one-centimeter margin on the width of the cardboard strip to cut the tab that will be glued to the upper square, as shown in the image.

Creo que esta es la parte a la que mas hay que prestarle atención ya que no nos podemos equivocar, por eso es bueno medir todo muy bien. Yo utilice varias reglas, saque la mitad del cuadrado, medí el radio, diámetro y toda la circunferencia para que quedara muy bien ubicado al momento de pegar la pestaña.

I think this is the part that requires the most attention, as we cannot make any mistakes, so it is important to measure everything very carefully. I used several rulers, removed half of the square, and measured the radius, diameter, and entire circumference so that it would be correctly positioned when gluing the tab.

Luego viene la parte divertida que es darle rienda suelta a la decoración y si tienes todos los materiales necesarios pues la cosa se hace mas fácil.

Hoy en día las casas comerciales te venden las mariposas y flores ya hechas, el otro detalle es que el nombre lo puedes mandar hacer y queda perfecto, lo mejor de todo es que no es tan costoso.

Then comes the fun part, which is letting your imagination run wild with the decorations. If you have all the necessary materials, it makes things easier.

Nowadays, stores sell ready-made butterflies and flowers. Another detail is that you can have the name made to order, and it turns out perfectly. Best of all, it's not that expensive.

Yo me divertí mucho haciendo este birrete para Andrimar, quien además es la mejor amiga de mi hijo y se han criado juntos desde pequeños. Así que es doble la emoción que se siente.

Siempre es bueno tener en cuenta los empates o imperfecciones que son inevitables en este tipo de trabajos, así que hay que taparlos muy bien y colocar todas las uniones en lo que será la parte posterior del birrete.

I had a lot of fun making this cap for Andrimar, who is also my son's best friend and has grown up with him since they were little. So the excitement is twofold.

It's always good to take into account the inevitable imperfections in this type of work, so you have to cover them up well and place all the seams on what will be the back of the cap.

La corona definitivamente dio el toque especial y elegante. Otra cosa que me encantó fue saber que le dedicó ese triunfo a sus padres quienes le han tratado de dar lo mejor en esta vida.

Saber que su padre no podría estar presente durante el acto nos llenaba de nostalgia y es que Andy es uno más de los venezolanos que hace un año se fue en busca de oportunidades en otro país.

The crown definitely added a special and elegant touch. Another thing I loved was knowing that he dedicated this triumph to his parents, who have tried to give him the best in life.

Knowing that his father could not be present during the ceremony filled us with nostalgia, as Andy is one of many Venezuelans who left a year ago in search of opportunities in another country.
