Un nuevo día en el Consultorio: La elección de ser y estar para el otro [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community! Today I'm joining you here to share a new anecdote from my (almost) daily routine. For this occasion, I'm once again talking about the office where I work, where I work as a Dental Assistant. Specifically, I'm working alongside Dr. Gledys Vásquez, with whom I've been working since last year, approximately six months ago. During this time, I've learned a lot about this beautiful and useful profession, especially if you have a boss who helps and directs you with sufficient patience, leadership, assertiveness, and care. That's truly valuable. And I believe that a good work environment is largely due (and partly due to the willpower and discipline of others). Of course, this applies to many things in general, but the success of a practice also depends on the entire staff knowing how to work as a team. They all fulfill different roles, each necessary and valuable in their own way.
¡Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Lifestyle! El día de hoy me uno por aquí para compartir con ustedes una nueva anécdota de mi rutina (casi) diaria. Para esta ocasión vuelvo a hablarles sobre el consultorio en el que trabajo, dónde me desempeño cómo Asistente de Odontología. Específicamente al lado de la Dra. Gledys Vásquez, con quién he venido trabajando desde el año pasado, hace ya unos 6 meses aproximadamente. Tiempo en el que he aprendido muchísimo sobre esta bonita y útil profesión, sobre todo si se cuenta con un jefe que te ayuda y te dirige con la suficiente paciencia, liderazgo, asertividad y cariño. Eso es realmente valioso. Y creo que en buena parte (y otra parte de la voluntad y disciplina del otro) el que uno ame su profesión se debe también a un buen ambiente de trabajo. Por supuesto, esto aplica para muchas cosas en general, pero el exito de un consultorio recae también en que todo el personal sepa manejarse en equipo. Todos cumplen con diferentes funciones, cada una de ellas necesarias y valiosas en su estilo.
So today I was reflecting on that fact, how learning this new profession has changed me considerably. I think a part of me, which is usually willing to care, serve, teach, and be attentive to others (as was the case with my choice to become a teacher), is now taken into account and is useful within my field of work. I would even say they are mandatory qualities for practicing any profession related to the health field or the humanities. I'm happy to be involved and able to offer something of myself to each patient. Among other things, today we had some patients who have been loyal (for a long time) to the doctor, and one of the cases presented a dilemma that touched on the issue of service, trying to give everything for a patient. It was a question of whether or not to save a tooth. This is still being studied, but I know the efforts being made. Only the best is desired. Por lo que hoy reflexionaba sobre ese hecho, cómo me ha cambiado bastante aprender esta nueva profesión. Creo que una parte de mi, que suele estar dispuesta a atender, servir, enseñar y estar al pendiente del otro (cómo me sucedía con la elección de elegir ser docente), ahora son tomadas en cuenta y son útiles dentro de mi área de trabajo. Diría incluso que son sino cualidades obligatorias para poder ejercer cualquier profesión que tenga que ver con él área de la salud o relacionadas a las humanidades. Me alegra estar en ello y poder brindar algo de mi a cada paciente. Dentro de otras cosas, hoy nos visitaron algunos pacientes que son leales (mucho tiempo) a la doctora y precisamente, uno de los casos, presentaba un dilema que tocaba aquello de servir, tratar de darlo todo por un paciente. Se trataba de salvar o no, una pieza dental. Aún se está estudiando eso, pero me consta los esfuerzos que se hacen para ello. Solo se quiere lo mejor.
