The students in the Art Class [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Family & Friends community! Today I'm joining you to share another day in the classroom. It's important to me that students are in a safe and comfortable environment where they feel at ease and can learn, because no one can truly learn in a tense or unpleasant space. Often, having a pleasant classroom environment seems like a dream, but I firmly believe that it can be achieved with whatever resources are available. I think it's a matter of gradually getting to know the context, experimenting, and building confidence.
¡Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Family & Friends! El día de hoy me uno por aquí para compartir con ustedes un nuevo día en el aula de clase. Para mí es importante que los estudiantes estén en un ambiente seguro, dónde haya bienestar y puedan sentirse a gusto para darle paso al aprendizaje porque definitivamente no hay nadie que aprenda algo en un espacio tenso o desagradable. Muchas veces eso (tener un ambiente de clase agradable) parece un sueño, pero creo firmemente que uno puede lograr que eso suceda con lo poco o mucho que se tenga. Creo que es cuestión de ir conociendo poco a poco el contexto, probar y que la confianza se vaya dando.
This week we worked on perspective and drawing fluidity. The students had previously learned how to work with grayscale, chiaroscuro, and contrast in their drawings. So today we practiced an exercise that involved drawing several three-dimensional geometric figures (various polygons) that had to be completed within different time intervals. For example: sketching in 1 minute, then changing position and doing it in 5 minutes, etc. All of this presents a challenge because the kids want to recreate everything they see in the reference and also want it to turn out perfectly.
Esta semana estuvimos trabajando sobre el tema de la perspectiva y también la soltura. Los chicos habían visto anteriormente cómo trabajar el dibujo con la escala de grises, el claroscuro y el contraste. Así que hoy pusimos en práctica un ejercicio que consistía en dibujar algunas figuras geométricas tridimensionales (varios polígonos) que debían ser completados en intervalos de tiempo diferentes. Por ejemplo: hacer el boceto en 1 minuto, luego cambiar la posición y hacerlo en 5 minutos, etc. Todo eso representa cierto desafio porque los chicos desean construir todo lo que ven en la referencia y además desean que salga muy bien.
The idea behind this type of exercise is to develop fluidity. To loosen up a bit and let go of what's unnecessary in a drawing, focusing only on the essentials. From the general to the specific. In any case, they need to understand that drawing involves gestures and that we can use them to convey an intention about what we want. After the exercises, a group of kids helped me finish setting up the group exhibition we're working on, so we spent some time deciding where some of the pieces would be placed and how it would look best. I'm truly happy with them because they are very talented children, eager to learn, and they arrive at important conclusions, which shows they've been self-taught for some time. La idea de este tipo de ejercicio es tener soltura. Soltar un poco la mano y dejar de lado aquello que no necesitamos en un dibujo para tomar solo lo primordial. De lo general a lo específico. De todas formas, necesitan entender que el dibujo tiene gestos y que con ello podemos jugar bastante para dar una intención sobre lo que queremos. Luego de los ejercicios, un grupo de chicos me acompañó a terminar de montar la exposición colectiva en la que estamos trabajando nosotros, por lo que pasamos algún tiempo decidiendo dónde irían ubicados algunos y cómo quedaba mejor. Ciertamente estoy feliz de ellos porque son niños muy talentosos, con ganas de aprender y que llegan a resoluciones importantes lo que demuestra que tienen cierto tiempo siendo autodidactas.
