Recreating Famous Paintings: My students recreate paintings from the Renaissance to Expressionism [ENG/ESP]

Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community! Today I'm joining you to share a new post about my life in the classroom. This time, the Drawing Workshop is taking a trip back in time to dress up as figures from the Renaissance, Baroque, Realism, Romanticism, and Impressionism. In our second Art History class, I decided the students would do a fun activity to help them start remembering some of these artists. The activity consisted of recreating paintings by various artists, dressing, posing, and imitating everything seen in the paintings. Of course, composition was important, so before we began, we also reviewed what composition is.

En esta ocasión, el Taller de Dibujo se traslada al pasado para vestir cómo aquellos personajes del Renacimiento, el Barroco, el Realismo, el Romanticismo y el Impresionismo. En nuestra segunda clase de Historia del Arte, decidí que los chicos hicieran una actividad bastante agradable para que comiencen a grabar en sus memorias a algunos de esos artistas y dicha actividad consistía en; recrear pinturas de algunos artistas, vistiendo, posando e imitando todo lo visto en esa pintura. Por supuesto, la composición aquí era importante, así que antes de todo también hicimos un repaso de qué es la composición.
Although we're covering a fairly broad topic, I've tried to keep it from being too intense or complex. Therefore, the game is a great way to engage with art history by experiencing a whole creative process that goes beyond simply painting, painting, and more painting. It's also important to observe, reflect, and explore other aspects of the process. So the task was to choose some figurative paintings from that era (as we went along), decide how many children would participate based on the painting and who would play each role, then go to the makeshift "dressing room" and get dressed, finally going onto the stage to position themselves correctly and have their picture taken. It's practically a performance. Many of the children really got into character, embodying their roles from beginning to end and doing everything correctly. I found this very beautiful and admirable.
Aunque estamos viendo un tema que es bastante extenso, he intentado que no sea demasiado intenso y complejo, por lo cual el juego es una buena manera de hacerse parte de esa historia del arte al experimentar todo un proceso de creación que no sea simplemente pintar, pintar y pintar. También es importante observar, reflexionar y moverse en otros sentidos. Así que la tarea consistía en elegir algunos cuadros de la época que fueran figurativo (según íbamos avanzando), elegir cuantos iban a participar según la pintura y quiénes serían cada uno, luego ir al "camerino" improvisado y vestirse, pasando por último al escenario para ubicarse correctamente y obtener la fotografía de ese momento. Es prácticamente una performance. Muchos niños se metieron muy bien en el papel, asumiendo de principio a fin ese personaje y haciendo todo cómo debían. Lo cual me pareció muy bonito y admirable.
What you see here are some of the results we achieved. There are two groups: younger children and older children. So, some of the children were repeated, but that's understandable since it's the same theme for everyone. As you can see, the costumes, accessories, props, and even makeup were a bit scarce, but I tried to get enough, and some of them brought extras to supplement the outfits. However, despite this, the children used their creativity to bring each painting to life. The goal was for the fabric to serve as the color and form stains used in a real painting. A fantastic exercise. In the end, I edited some of them to correct temperature, light, and a few details that would highlight their work. It was a beautiful day, and the kids left very happy.
Lo que ven aquí son algunos de los resultados que tuvimos. Son dos grupos: los niños pequeños y los niños grandes. Así que uno por allí se repitió pero es factible porque es el mismo tema para todos. Cómo pueden ver, las vestimentas, accesorios, utileria y hasta maquillaje fueron un poco escasos pero intenté conseguir los suficientes y algunos de ellos trajeron algunos más para complementar. Sin embargo, a pesar de eso, los niños usaron su creatividad para poder poner en marcha la recreación de cada pintura. Buscando que la tela sirviera como las manchas de color y de forma que se usan en una pintura real. Un ejercicio fantástico. Al final edite algunos de ellos para corregir temperatura, luz y algunos detalles que resaltaran su trabajo. Fue un día muy bello y los chicos salieron muy felices de allí.

Oh my days! I love their creativity. The first one, the girl with the hat, is my favorite. I’m sure those kids will never forget the little details of what you teach them even in years to come because of how fun the class was.
Se puede aprender mucho de la Historia del Arte mientras se divierten, los chicos se inspiraron en las pinturas que replicaron a la perfección, me gusto mucho ver su interés en el aula de clases.
