Mercado de San Félix: ¡Día lluvioso lleno de compras! [ENG/ESP]

Hello to everyone in the Market Friday community! Today I join the community to share with you a brief review of my visit to the San Felix Market in Bolivar, Venezuela. This market is quite popular with the locals of the area and also with many others who choose to go there in search of better prices and quality. Compared to other markets in downtown Puerto Ordaz, this one in San Felix is much cheaper and there is much more variety than in the city. Here I tell you all about it.
My mom arrived in Puerto Ordaz on Thursday of this week. She came from Valencia on a trip that took about 16 hours. So that day we rested and then went to the market the next day, as she did not know this place and wanted to buy some food to prepare a special dinner. With some indications that the weather would be ready at any moment for a big drizzle, we made our way to the market. For that we must leave on a bus that will drop us off in downtown San Felix and then we must walk to the Plaza Bolivar and right next to the Caroni River, we will find the old market.

El día de hoy me uno a la comunidad para compartir con ustedes una breve reseña sobre lo que fue mi visita al Mercado de San Félix, en Bolívar, Venezuela. Este mercado es bastante popular por los lugareños de la zona y también por otros tantos más quienes optan por ir hasta allí en búsqueda de mejores precios y calidad. En comparación de otros mercados del centro de Puerto Ordaz, este en San Félix es bastante más económico y hay muchísima más variedad que en la ciudad. Aquí les cuento todo al respecto.
Mi mamá llegó a Puerto Ordaz el día jueves de esta semana. Vino desde Valencia en un viaje que duró unas 16 horas aproximadamente. Así que ese día descansamos para luego ir al día siguiente al mercado, ya que ella no conocía este espacio y quería comprar algunos alimentos para preparar una cena especial. Con algunos indicios de que el clima estaría listo en cualquier momento para una gran llovizna, nos encaminamos hasta el mercado. Para eso debemos salir en un bus que nos dejará en el centro de San Félix y luego debemos caminar hasta la Plaza Bolivar y justo al lado del río Caroní, encontraremos el viejo mercado.
What can we find here? Well, a little bit of everything. Here we will find fishmongers, seafood, butchers, greengrocers, various items, traditional medicine kiosks, confectionery, clothing kiosks, deli, typical Venezuelan accessories, pastries, etc.. As you may notice, there is a little bit of everything and it is usual to find these kiosks in this type of markets and many of them have a lifetime selling in that place. Many prefer the loyalty to a vendor they know and enjoy the product. We managed to buy chicken, tomato, garlic, onion, paprika, yucca, soy sauce, eggs and beef liver.
Finally, the rain soon came and we had to take shelter in a nearby store. That slowed things down a bit, but it certainly cleared and cleaned up the streets of San Felix a bit. After that, we sought to return home with everything we had in hand. Luckily I was carrying a backpack that I usually go to the market with, so we wouldn't have to carry those packages in our hands. Something else is that I really like going here even though it is usually hot and a bit noisy, but that's the charm of the markets: they are full of life. ¿Qué podremos encontrar aquí? pues de todo un poco. Aquí encontraremos pescadería, marisquería, carniceria, verdulería, abastos de rubros varios, kioskos de medicina tradicional, confitería,kioskos de ropa, charcutería, accesorios típicos venezolanos, repostería, etc. Cómo podrán notar, hay de todo un poco y es que este tipo de mercados es usual encontrar estos kioskos y muchos de estos tienen toda una vida vendiendo en ese lugar. Muchos prefieren la fidelidad a un vendedor que conocen y que disfrutan del producto. Nosotras conseguimos comprar pollo, tomate, ajo, cebolla, pimentón, yuca, salsa de soya, huevos y hígado de res.
Finalmente, la lluvia no tardó en llegar y tuvimos que refugiarnos en un local cercano. Eso ralentizó un poco las cosas, pero sin duda despejó y limpió un poco las calles de San Félix. Luego de ello, buscamos volver a casa con todo lo que teníamos en mano. Por suerte yo llevaba una mochila con la que suelo ir a hacer mercado, así no tendríamos que cargar con esos paquetes en nuestras manos. Algo más es que me gusta mucho ir por aquí a pesar de que suele ser caluroso y un poco bullicioso, pero es el encanto de los mercados: están llenos de vida.
