Ending the week in January: Alta Vista and its curiosities [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Photography Lovers community. Today I'm joining you to share a new collection of photographs from the city of Puerto Ordaz. Now that Sunday has arrived, I feel a bit of a sense of disappointment knowing that academic activities are starting nationwide next week. Which means the end of my vacation (hahaha). Although I was actually quite anxious to start teaching again, as I believe that when you spend too much time away from your profession, you "go cold" (you rust, lose practice and versatility), so it's good to know it's time to return. An example of this "going cold" thing happens to me with photography, as it's something I don't do all the time, but it's always there, dormant, and I pick it up again from time to time. Although lately I've been more diligent this month.
Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Photography Lovers. El día de hoy me uno por aquí para compartir con ustedes una nueva recopilación de fotografía por la ciudad de Puerto Ordaz. Ya llegado el día domingo, siento un poco de impresión al notar que esta semana que viene ya comienzan las actividades académicas a nivel nacional. Lo que significa el fin de mis vacaciones (jajaja). Aunque en realidad ya estaba un poco ansiosa por comenzar a dar clases pues considero que cuando uno pasa mucho tiempo sin hacer su oficio uno se "enfría" (se oxida, pierde practica y versatilidad), así que es bueno saber que ya es momento de volver. Un ejemplo de aquello de "enfriar el oficio" me sucede con la fotografía, pues es algo que no hago siempre, pero que está allí latente y retomo de vez en cuando. Aunque últimamente he estado más juiciosa en este mes.
Interestingly, this Sunday I went a little way towards the center of Alta Vista and came across a poster looking for a dirty-faced parrot named "Bumpy." It gave me a tremendous feeling imagining its owner transcribing those words, so clearly filled with desperation to get her pet back. By the way, here in Venezuela it's illegal to own wild animals as pets, but some people have taken them in and made them their companions. There are also those who find them injured, alone, and at their mercy, so they prefer to give them a second chance rather than simply let them die.
Curiosamente este domingo me acerque un poco a la altura del centro de Alta Vista y me encontré con semejante cartel dónde se busca a un lorito cara sucia llamado "Bumpy". Me dió tremendo sentimiento imaginando a su dueña transcribiendo esas palabras que se notan cargadas de desesperación por recuperar a su mascota. Que por cierto, aquí en Venezuela es ilegal poseer fauna silvestre cómo mascotas, pero de todas formas hay quienes han tomado algunos de ellos y los han hecho sus compañeros. Cómo también habrá quienes los encuentran lastimados, solos y a su merced, por lo que prefieren darle una segunda oportunidad antes de dejarlos simplemente morir.
The truth is, I didn't see the little parrot anywhere. At least, not one that seemed domesticated, because here in Guayana there are quite a few parrots everywhere. Who knows if someone else has already taken Bumpy, although I really hope he returns to his owner. Among other things, the weather these days has been quite good: a nice breeze, clear skies, and bright sunshine. Perfect for taking photographs, as they say. Along the way, I found some things that are always there, but look different, for example, the windmill in Christmas Park. They'll soon be taking down all the Christmas decorations, so we'll see Puerto Ordaz back to normal. As a final note, I took the opportunity to stop by Makro Centro 1 and went to the dollar store to look for some stationery I needed, which unfortunately I couldn't find. There are about three of these stores in that mall alone. That's all for now, and thank you so much for stopping by.
Lo cierto es que no ví al lorito por ningún lado. Al menos, no uno que pareciera ser domesticado porque aquí en Guayana si que hay bastantes loros por todos lados. Quién sabe si alguien más habrá tomado ya a Bumpy, aunque realmente espero que regrese con su dueña. Entre otras cosas, el clima en estos días ha estado bastante bueno: mucha brisa, cielo despejado, sol radiante. Cómo quién dice, ideal para tomar fotografías. Encontrando en el camino algunas cosas que siempre están, pero que lucen diferente, por ejemplo; el molino del Parque de la Navidad. Ya pronto quitarán todo los adornos de navidad, así que bueno, veremos nuevamente a Puerto Ordaz a como suele ser de costumbre. Cómo última cosa, aproveche a pasar por Makro Centro 1 y fui a la tienda de 1$ para ver unas cosas de papelería que necesitaba y que desgraciadamente no encontré. De estas tiendas hay como 3, solo en ese centro comercial. Sin más que decir muchísimas gracias por pasar por aquí.
