Art Classes: playful and meaningful [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Daily Blog community! Today I'm joining you here to share with you another day in the classroom. This time, I want to show you some of the activities we did in the Drawing Workshop. I'm very pleased to be able to meet with my students, because although the goal is for them to learn, the truth is that as a teacher, we also learn in the process. Here we go.
This week, we covered the Basic Elements of the Visual Arts, which are essential content in their training as artists. Of course, talking about it can be a bit tedious (especially for the little ones), but with the right resources and strategies, any topic can be relevant to them (through educational transposition). On the first day, focusing on this topic (dots, lines, geometric shapes, texture, color, and others), we worked on printing, using geometric shapes and primary colors that would be printed on white paper. That was their first introduction to the topic, but the next time I approached the class from a playful perspective.
¡Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Daily Blog! El día de hoy me uno por aquí para compartir con ustedes un nuevo día en el aula de clase. Y es que en esta oportunidad les quiero mostrar lo que fue parte de las actividades que realizamos en el Taller de Dibujo. Me agrada mucho poder encontrarme con mis estudiantes, porque aunque el objetivo es que ellos aprendan, lo cierto es que uno cómo docente también aprende en el proceso. Aquí vamos.
Esta semana vimos los Elementos Básicos de las Artes Plásticas, siendo un contenido imprescindible en su formación cómo artistas. Por supuesto hablar de ello puede ser un poco pesado (sobre todo para los más pequeños), pero con los recursos y estrategias indicadas, cualquier tema puede llegar a ellos (haciendo una transposición didáctica). En el primer día con este tema (el punto, la línea, las figuras geométricas, la textura, el color y otros), trabajamos la impresión, usando figuras geométricas y colores primarios que serían estampados en hojas blancas. Ese fue el primer acercamiento que tuvieron con el tema, pero para la siguiente oportunidad abordé la clase desde lo lúdico.
I made several geometric shapes at home, such as the triangle, the square, and the circle, in primary colors. When I arrived in class, we did a first activity to get them excited, and then we moved on to a game. The game consisted of a competition where two students competed against each other and, to win, they had to find the geometric shapes with the corresponding color. Whoever accumulated the most shapes (that matched the reference) won. The girls really enjoyed it, even increasing the difficulty at one point by adding three pieces (triangle, circle, square) and shortening the time. I was very happy when the youngest student, aged 6, came forward and said, "Teacher, with two triangles I can make a square." At the end of the class, we reinforced what they had learned, and I gave them a copy to color freely.
This was true of the smaller group, but with the older ones, the activity was different. More kids have joined, and that makes me very happy. Before, I only had girls, but now we have two boys. This is quite useful for when we need a male model for the headshot, and a female model for the portrait. The boys worked with grayscale and volume exercises. Then we did a short exercise to work with real-life elements, taking into account their shape, light, and scale. They tend to be a little quieter and enjoy concentrating on their own drawing. Realicé en casa varias figuras geométricas cómo el triángulo, el cuadrado y el circulo en colores primarios. Cuando llegué a la clase, hicimos una primera actividad para animarlas y pasamos al juego. El juego consistía en una competencia dónde dos estudiantes se enfrentaban y para ganar debían encontrar las figuras geométricas con el color correspondiente. Quién acumulara más figuras (que coincidieran con la referencia), ganaba. Las chicas lo disfrutaron muchísimo, incluso en un punto dado, subimos la dificultad con tres piezas (triángulo, círculo, cuadrado) y acortando el tiempo. Me hizo muy feliz cuando la estudiante más pequeña, de 6 años, paso al frente y me dijo "profe, con dos triángulos hago un cuadrado". Al final de la clase, reforzamos lo visto y les di un ejemplar para pintar libremente.
Esto con respecto al grupo más pequeño, pero con los más grandes la actividad fue diferente. Se han unido más chicos y eso me alegra bastante. Antes solo tenía puras chicas, pero ahora tenemos dos varones. Lo que nos viene bastante bien para cuando necesitemos un modelo masculino para el retrato de rostro y respectivamente, uno femenino. Los chicos trabajaron con ejercicios de escala de grises y volumen. Luego hicimos un pequeño ejercicio para trabajar elementos reales, tomando en cuenta su forma, la luz y escala. Ellos suelen ser un poco más callados y disfrutan de concentrarse en su propio dibujo. Por los momentos las cosas marchan muy bien, así que es todo por hoy. Estas eran mis clases favoritas, y cuando estaba en secundaria siempre hacía las actividades de artes con toda mi atención. Me encantaba :)
